impreza rb5, terzo etc
Discussion
hi, i was thinking of getting an impreza rb5, although i believe the terzo is almost identical.
what differences are there between the engine in an rb5 and the engine in a p1 or sti? is the turbo different?
also is the rb5 engine the same as the one in the uk 2000 turbo?
which is best? as i have seen rb5`s tuned to in excess of p1/sti power does that make them a bit scary reliability wise?
thanks guys

The RB5 was created to celebrate the return of Richard Burns as a driver for Subaru - The number on the side of his rally car was '5' - Limited to 444 numbers, the car comes in a light grey colour with very few comestic changes. Many came with a 240hp sports pack consisting of an upgraded ECU and exhaust.
The P1 was limited to 1000 cars and is a Prodrive fettled version
This is the one I'd go for, but unfortunately it gets stick from non-car enthusiasts, as it looks as if you've just driven through your local Halfords ... covered in glue.
The Turbo Terzo was to celebrate Subaru's WRC championship win - Only 333 made in Blue Mica.
ETA: I believe they are all very similar (with exception to the P1). It seems the Terzo and RB5 are just special editions of the WRX.

surely the terzo and rb5 are limited versions of the 2000 turbo as the wrx was an import?
to be honest i was mainly asking about the differences in engines and suspension rather than the obvious cosmetic differences.
thanks anyway, and i also like the p1 a lot but it has only 3 doors and is a fair bit more expensive.

not really - there were quite a few changes between MY98 and MY99, and I'm fairly sure the Terzo was MY98. Engine had slight changes, but brakes were 4-pot rather than the earlier 2-pot (see http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.php/SidcFaq/Mod...rsstman said:

not too sure on the JDM car differencesrsstman said:

Yes. Either it was left standard (215/215) or Prodrive tuned it (237/258) with ECU, piping and exhaust changes.rsstman said:

Best? Buy the best condition one you can find. Any Impreza can be tuned to whatever. Terzos are probably rarer than RB5, but being English we probably hold the RB5 in higher regard.thanks guys
I bought a MY00 UK 5-door, and had Prodrive do their bit to it. I love it, and can't imagine ever getting rid.

I'd get the 22b it looks the best by miles!
Also the most expensive by miles! My pick would be an STi Type-RA V-ltd.are the japanese ones any better or worse than the uk ones other than the obvious power difference?
Try www.type-ra.co.uk or bbs.22b.com for more info about rarer Imprezas. I know a bit about the jap-spec cars but can't really help much when it comes to UK-only models sorry. As far as I understand it the key appeal of most UK versions is softer, more supple suspension optimised for bumpy roads.

Just to add my 2 pence worth
Terzo
1998 bogo Impreza Turbo 2000 (the UK cars weren't called WRX's until the bugeye) with:
Gold wheels
Blue mica paint (at the time the only UK car in this colour)
Sti style seats
Power was the standard 208bhp
RB5
Blue steel paint
17inch alloys
Quick shift
Driving lights
plus a few other bits
Power 215bhp
RB5 WR sport
Added the STi V rear wing and the PPP
No suspension mods, although this could be added. You could also get the Prodrive WR Sport, which is an RB5 WR sport in all but colour and badge.
The Japanese import of the time were the:
WRX (240-280bhp) (2 door and 4 door models)
Sti 280bhp (2 door and 4 door models)
squwillins of different varients, RAs etc
Let me know what else you need to know and have a look at http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.php/SidcFaq/Spe...
To be honest the RB5 is only worth it for the badge and colour. It won't be any better than a Prodrive WR Sport. Either of these is better than a Terzo unless you are a collector.

thats a bit better, so do the jap sti`s get a larger turbo and forged pistons? are there any benefits having a uk car over an import?
so far i think an rb5 wr sport is on the cards.
The best benefit of a UK car is insurance.so far i think an rb5 wr sport is on the cards.
A lot more companies will quote you for a UK car.
