Going to MIRA proving ground!!

Last weekend I did an advanced driving day with the High Performance Club (HPC) and they have invited me to a day with them at MIRA proving ground! We will apparently have unfettered access to the high speed bowl, alpine test track, outer handling circuit and skid pan! I wonder if I can sneak the cerb into the wind tunnel

The day is mid september so I am going to pull out all the stops to get the cerb finished in the next 3 weeks so I can have time to tweak it (no pressure plasticman )

It will be interesting to see how fast I can go on the high speed bowl!

I am going to buy a bullet camera or similar so I can share the experience. Anyone got any recommendations for a suitable camera?

Cameras aren't allowed there for sprint events. Check before you turn up with one. You might need to apply for written permission or something. Enjoy the day.

It is not a sprint event as far as I am aware, it's just ment to be an enjoyable day while at the same time hopefully refining the skills. I will ask the club what the deal with cameras is.

As far as I remember no cameras are allowed into MIRA. I did a session there with John Lyon of HPC a couple of years ago and I even had to leave my mobile with the security on the gate as it has a camera on it. I can't imagine much has changed since.

Cameras are not allowed on the site, don't waste your money. They will check and if found you'll just be kicked off the site.

Wether cameras are allowed or not i just bought a 4kam race pack camera. I only got it yesterday and have only had a quick play but i'm impressed so far although the battery pack is a load of st and i had to hard wire it but i think this is the case with most bullet cameras.

Don't do it, it'll just pi55 them off and make them even more unlikely to grant permission for people to use the venue. It only takes one person to ruin it for everyone.

The Bentley Driver's Club run the sprint that the TVRs attend, it's a great event, it would be a shame if the event was cancelled.

Sounds like a good day.
I was lucky enough to do a lot of testing at MIRA, heed the warning reference cameras!
The skid pan's a bit naff as it's not that big, the high speed track is a little lumpy compared to the nice tarmac of millbrook. You be amazed how close to the barrier you are when entering the banking on the outer lane, takes a bit of getting use to!

The real fun is on the wetgrip handling circuit, and the dunlop circuit

Millbrook is a fabulous place. It was great fun test driving an S2K there...

Would love to go back without a car, with a camera and with permission, of course.

It was not a normal HPC course I did. It was something they organised called a young drivers day. There were 25 'pupils' and 25 instructors/club members. The day started with a couple of lectures on advanced driving techniques and then we each went out with a club member/instructor to watch them drive. We then swapped over and they would observe our driving and instruct where needed. We then came back for lunch and had a few more lectures. After lunch we went out with a different instructor/club member and then to finish off another lecture on circuit driving.

The day was brilliant, there were some very experienced people there including Hugh Noblet who runs Cadence. I learnt a lot and was lucky enough to go out driving with two police driving instructors who taught me how to rev match properly and to corner - "slow in fast out" It is impossible to list everything I learnt but it is definately something I want to expand on and I plan to do the course to join the HPC club as soon as I can. I was very lucky to be able to go along to this, all the instructors and club member were there voluntarily and the only cost I had was £35 to cover the cost of the food and hire of the function rooms at the hotel.
