According to German news tonight the police report that up to 50,000 vehicles officially 'scrapped' actually got shipped to Africa and East Europe. This represents between 5 and 10% of the vehicles reported as scrapped. So if you need any cheap spares, you know where to go.

Thought recycling was a good thing.

German understanding of the word is removing from the recycling system. I actually recycle all my companies cardboard in that it is shredded and used as filler in other boxes. I still have to pay to get my cardboard recycled (taken away and burnt) although I have none, AND I actually recycle, which the department responsible refuse to accept as happens.

The germans knew about this potential problem in the scrappage scheme as soon as it was announced, but you'll never ever get a German Beamte actually doing something unless he has a law which he can rely on. The department responsible has already said they can do nothing about it as they have no legal powers to do anything....(it'd mean they'd actually have to work, instead of polishing their trousers)

I wonder if the old blind eye is being cocked? Exporting 50,000 vehicles will help

Germanys balance of payments !

Why didn't we think of that?

50'000 vehicles saved from destruction so that they can be used ad infinitum be the less fortunate?

That's disgusting, and must be stamped out now............

In the UK, 300'000 cars are due to be destroyed. If the average 'scrappage' car is worth £500, that's about 1.5 billion pounds isn't it??
