Racing idiots...

OK I admit I was not quite prepared for the ridiculous amount of "challenges" you suffer on the road in a TVR. What is is with Subaru' and of all cars Audi TT's? They all seem to think I'm out for some kind of race, as if I care...
Is there an oil slick extra you can fit onto TVR's yet? Or better rear missile launchers?

I am afraid mate that you will have to get used to it...I didn't realise until I got my first TVR how many nutters there are out there. Everyone thinks because you have a sports car you want to race everyone on the road, and I agree, and its mostly young guys in their TT's, think they need to drive that little bit faster then you...to clearly prove something. All that proves to me is that they are jealous and are a little bit embarrassed driving next to a 'true sportscar' not some german car trying to imitate a sportscar
On the other hand there are many people who drive closer to you or with you because they are inquisitive...unfortunately don't realise that their actions can be dangerous. Alan.
Maybe I've just been lucky, or don't pay enough attention to other drivers, but I've never really noticed this in either of my TVRs.
Maybe it's because I tend not to look at other drivers, but the only reactions I've noticed recently are people waving and giving me the thumbs up.
I'm sure it happens - I just seem to be blisfully unaware of it!

In the first week of ownership we've had people driving sooo close to the back to try and read the badge it scared me (gently dropped back from the car in front to increase braking distance) and also the "must overtake TVR" brigade
Also had some school kids literally jump out
on me shouting "nice car mister", and on a cold thursday last week, a couple of girls that shouted "you must be crazy, you have no roof"

I too have noticed the large number of people wanting to make themselves known when I'm in the TVR. I wouldn't mind so much if they were smiling and friendly, making it obvious they were just having fun and enjoying the car or the thought of a blast down the road but it just seems to be lots of blokes looking dead serious and wanting to show their worth!!

The ones which try and race you on foot are the funniest. The other day I was stationary while waiting for oncoming traffic to pass in one of those terraced streets which is too narrow due to parked cars. A bunch of teenaged boys appeared shouting the usual “Nice car mate!” Then they offered to race me to the end of the road. So I set off with them sprinting beside me. I won.
(Obviously (after an initial burst of wheel spin for effect) I drove very sedately down the road at about 20mph as I really didn’t want to risk side-swiping them with a snaking rear end)

Wot you mean you not noticed others wanting to take you on Ed!!?
I have to admit I've been sat at the lights when this bunch of other nutters seem to Q up behind me.
and I also have to admit when the lights go from red to green I do take am ALL on!!
Of course thats not before the green flag lap and countdown boards from 5mins :-)
Come and play in the TVRCC Challenge Cup guys!

I know everyone harps on about BMW drivers but heres a new one Honda Civic Type R Drivers. In my home town of rothwell there are two and they go round lording it up like they have the best car in town, not that i'm really bothered it's when they are cutting people up left right and centre it pi$$es me off. Anyway i'm travelling up a road 30 zone littered with speed humps and one of the CTR group is right up my arse, so i give a little right foot inbetween the humps. To be a little considerate i guess, it must be irritating having to slow down to 5mph every bump, he sees this as a race inbetween speed humps in a 30, couldn't believe it. Anyway got to end of said road and into a de-restricted road overtook granny in her metro doing 20 when the CTR it comes flying around the metro and another car heading right for my ar$s, twice in 5 mins, does anyone give up. But every story has a happy ending, a little right foot generally does the trick.
I guess it doesn't matter on the type of car you or race boy is in, it all depends on the type of driver, some are prepared to risk life and limb for a win

I've noticed more people trying to race, but the variety of cars doing it is bizarre. On Saturday a Merc Estate had a go which was odd, thought I would make his day and let him go, then when he was back on the phone I woke him up by letting it overrun as I went passed him - great fun!
The people who get close behind you are really annoying, I do tend to just slow to a very slow pace until they figure out that I'm not amused by their actions.
Mind you, so far (all of one week!) most of the response I have had has been really positive.

Honda Civic Type R Drivers
Gotta 2nd that. There's a bespeckled sad bloke in a white one in Peterborough - what a nob - even has a type R personalised plate thing which is sh1te too.
He spotted me in the Chim a coouple of times and overtook everything in his way just to try and get up behind me. I turned off beforehand which was funny.
I've even walked past the bloke in a petrol station while he was filling his crap car and eyeballed him continuously from 20yards until I've passed him - but he just plays dumb. All of about 23/24 - one of these saddo's for whom his car is his life.
A 1st class nob

Now you come to mention it, I get this quite a lot in my Westfield - it seems to happen about 12 times a year, and always at the weekend!!

Oi
Less of the Type R bashing Ya Barstewards!
mmmm what will you say to my next daily driver...Focus RS/Seat Leon R - Not decided yet.
Like my hot hatches just as much as the big yella beastie. Guess I am a boy racer in the week and a "proper" sports car driver at the weekend.
Lucky enough to taste the best of both..
Still - confuses the hell out of me as I want to race myself round the yard!

Pretty hilarious.
Since you mentioned it, thought you would get a laugh out of this quick video.
