Guess I better stand up for the Nova then.
Reasons for:
Parts - more shared GM parts around than 205s (im my experience)
Electrics - 205 didnt have electrics it had little elves that did the job, sadly all die after 10-15 years.
Looks - 80s box arches versus wimpy french design.
REDTOPS F***ING RULE - 150bhp+ in an engine that doesnt need to be pandered over. Just give a litre of oil every so often and rag it till it blows up (which depsite how hard you try, it wont), but if it does, just buy another for £200 and your off on your way again.
Forgiving rear suspension - Torsions bars suck , ok they give great handling up until limit, sadly that limit is indisinguishable, step over the mark and bye bye tarmac, hello armco. Give me a nice polybushed rear beam anyday.
Against.
Image - Same reason (albeit subconciously) that all above recommendations for the 205 were really made. Fortunately the Nova is loosing its chav image (taken over by saxo, 206, 106 etc) as most are now either, track slags, tidy OE+ jobs, competetion runners or rust buckets.
Rust - although to be fair this could be argued agiasnt the 205 as well as they are far from rust proof. However as long as the car is well checked over for the common spots, the rest can be welded up easily.
Any argumentrs for the 205s exclent chassis can almost instantly be put to rest by looking at how many race/rally novas there are compared to 205s. A well prepped Nova is just as capable as a well prepped 205. OK, you need to tweek a Nova to get there, only because out of the factory the 205 was better. Spend the same amount on coilovers and polybushes on either car and I bet the Nova would be as good if not better as it would be faster down the straights.
