Pinging Mavic Crossmax Problem
Discussion
My front '08 Crossmax is "pinging", particularly when loaded. I have had them retensioned a few weeks ago, and I just replaced a bent spoke, but the pinging sound remains.
I understand this is a generic problem, but have any of you come up with a solution ?
I'm thinking of applying grease to the hub-end of the spokes, but I'm worried about the grease finding its way onto the disc.
Any ideas ? Do I need to increase the spoke tension?
Ta.

I'm getting this from my Crossmax SL's (07), wondered what the hell it was! Be watching this thread closely....
Do we have time for some more double entendres ? Shall I tell you about lubing my flange ?
OK.
0: Took my wheels to be retensioned a few weeks ago. Oiled each nippled before taking them in. Pinging remained after.
1: Replaced bent spoke. Pinging remained after.
2: Removed disc.
3. Oiled each spoke where it goes into the hub with Brunnox(similar to WD40).
4. Left overnight.
5. Wiped of excess oil. This included wiping down the length of the spokes* where oil had got on them.
6. Rode around on bike for 10mins without disc. No pinging noise evident.
7. Refitted disc. Test rode bike. Still no noise.
Solution: Oil spokes where they contact hub.
It's unfortunately not clear if the noise emmenated from hub area, or where the spokes* crossed and rubbed against each other. Whatever.
Reason: This bike has travelled over 5000kms on a roof rack, often in the rain, so possibly any original coating has been blasted away. Maybe due to washing the bike.
Next time I do this, I'll use my chain lube, which should solidify after initial penetration, and remain longer.
(I'll be out of contact for next few weeks, but will answer any questions when I return)
