I have seen a car that is unregistered at an independent that has been supplied by BMW Holland. It is a UK spec car but not supplied by a UK BMW dealer. My question therefore is do you think that this would cause me any problems in terms of warranty and using a local BMW dealer to service it. Many Thanks

No problem whatsoever, covered by pan-european warranty.

BMW service dept will just be glad for the business.

Thanks for that. If for example I decided to buy the car and a few days later I felt there was something wrong with the car. Would I go straight to my local dealer to fix it?

Any main dealer will be able to fix it under warranty without any problems.

Check to see how long the warranty will last for? Some european supplied cars only have 2 year warranty compared to UK 3 years. Also does the warranty start when you have it first registered to you? or did it start when the Dutch dealer sold it?

Bear in mind also a non UK supplied car will typicaly be worth less than a UK supplied one. How much depends on lots of factors. The older the car is the less of a problem it becomes. So if you are going to keep it 5 years + then it probably wont be a problem.

I have known people to go abroad to get a car £6-7k cheaper, only to try and sell it in the UK less than a year later, only to find that it is about the same price difference or more when selling, and all the effort involved in getting it wasnt worth it.

And you can pretty much forget any goodwill claims being settled by the dealer out of warranty / non warranty items.

Is it significantly cheaper than a dealer demo / pre-reg / new one from stock ?

You will have a 2 year warranty from the date of PDI (Check the service book for this date) you may or may not have a third year, the supplying dealer in Holland should be able to advise you on this.

Adjust value to suit the car, not sure how much though.

Agree with this guy, once the car is 3-4 years old, the dealer that did the PDI is irrelevant.

One thing that sets alarm bells ringing - you describe the car in your title as a 3.0SD - they havent been called that here since 1st October 08 - its now xDrive35d.

Also, people like broadspeed can supply a brand new UK car for around £5500 off list price.

One thing to be careful of is the exact specification of the car - if its an SE it pretty much MUST have the Dynamic Pack and Nav, but there are a lot of options that could really beef up the list price of the car but arent really what you would otherwise bother with, eg, the independent dealer selling the car might say '£55K list price, £10K off' but it might have £5K of bits you didnt want in the first place, meaning you'd be as well to buy a discounted UK in the first place.

Thanks guys for the advice. The spec is close to what I am after. (3rd row seating and Panoramic roof)and colour.
The saving is approx £10k off of list price. I am also a cash buyer so would expect a further discount!
