Hiya,

As I mentioned in one of my posts the other day, developers are trying to move into Pincents Hill in Calcot/Tilehurst. Now, this is a bad thing because this is a really nice hill, lots of wide open spaces for wildlife to live, kids to play and dogs to walk. If anybody wants links to the proposed site plans, I can dig those up for you.

But in the meantime, someone has put up a petition. If you have a couple of minutes spare, could you please sign it? I know HM Govt will almost certainly ignore it, but anything's worth a try.

http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/PincentsHill/

There's also an address to write to, if anybody wants to object in writing to granting of the planning permission. If anybody wants that, I can post it here as well.

Thanks in advance. beer

p.s. I asked Garlick if it's okay to post this here as well as in the Thames Valley section - he's fine with it. So please mods, don't move it! smile

Would you not be better sending in a petition/objection to your local council/authority and local MP????

I've done that as well. But I can't ask all of PH to do all that too, it'd be too much. Signing an e-petition only takes a minute though.

Done - I hope they fail.

The tossers will try to build on a piece of land the size of a postage stamp with nasty cardboard flats & no parking.

Can you put up a link to the plans?

I wouldn't bother with thousands of names, don't waste your time. Fight them with law, badgers are protected by law as are Newts, find either and they can't build. Locals need to write letters to the planners and local MP's.

From experience (Weve prevented a few planning applications, we live in the countryside) Environmental laws are your friend for once!.

Feel free to PH me im sure I could share an example letter with all the relevant laws in it.

Done, hope it goes well.

I work in the building industry and, as stated above, if you find a newt or any other kind of protected wildlife, building permission will have to be reviewed and, more than likely, withdrawn.

Suggest you find a newt.

I've just read the building prospectus and actually it sounds quite nice. Shame their trying to build it on a park. Maybe a nice brown field site instead.

Thanks Steve, I'll do that. I'm pretty sure there are badgers there. And there are definitely newts nearby, wonder if they could be persuaded to move?? wink

Argh! Don't get me started on bats. One of the girls in the office is having a house built on some old farm land. She had someone come out to review the land and they found a bats nest.
£3000 and 6 months later, she's still waiting for build permission.

Okay. I need to find some bat poo. Does anyone have bats, a shovel and a plastic bag? hehe

There are definitely badgers in the copse and newts in my new back garden, how do I persuade them to move to the hill and stay where they can be found by the people examining the planning proposal? Or do we just need evidence of their presence rather than actual physical sightings?

It could be arranged. But how do I make sure it stays there? The officials might smell a rat if the thing has a nail through it. biggrin

Whilst it's admirable that you're trying to protect your local area etc, asking a load of strangers that the development has no impact on in any way to sign a petition is a little bit underhand in my opinion. If the developers sought to use tactics like that to force the plans through, you'd all be up in arms.

Just my 2p. smile

Well, I did only ask locals at first. But then I realised that many of them might not see the Thames Valley board so I posted it in the Lounge as well. As far as I know, only locals have signed it. So it's not underhand at all, just maximising the chances of locals seeing the petition. That's all. No subterfuge intended. smile
