Hello all.

I'm currently in the market for a diesel car to cruise to and from work. I drive an old M3 at the moment but with a new job recently started, I now have to endure a 65 mile each way trip and the petrol cost is killing me. Not to mention now adding galactic milage to my old girl. Seems X-types are amazing value at 3-4 yrs old and I think I'd want a 2.2d sport estate so it can be a bit of a work-horse too.

So, my question to you X-type owners...what are they like to live with? Comfy? Frugal? How's the handing? Any known problems?

I have already read the 'just bought one' thread in here but thought I'd put some questions out to owners that have had theirs a little longer. My alternative is a BMW 330d tourer but there are sod all on the market in my budget (about 8K) so I'm looking at alternatives. I certainly can't lower myself to a SAAB or Ford or anything like that either.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

If you want a work hoss, then look at a 2.0D tourer. That'll achieve better mpg for the use you will be putting it to - toiling up and down doing commuter miles. It'll be tidy handling, but don't expect 3-series touring levels of poise and feedback.

Try www.x-type.org.uk

I am a mod on there...I have a 3.0 Sport, but general views on the diesels are very good, especially with a £150 synergy box that increases power and improves mpg.

I have a 2.0D estate and have found it very easy to live with. Getting around 42mpg around town and 48mpg+ on longer journeys. The only thing I don't like is the tyres, (Pzeros), which will get changed as soon as this set wears out.
