Would be grateful for bit of advice. Looking to spend £35-38k soon on either of above. Have 2 young kids so would be M3 saloon rather than coupe. Resale value/depreciation is difficult to answer. Planning to keep car for 2yrs or so, will only get from dealer as AUC. £6k would get me 06 M5 with 15k miles and well specced and £38k-ish would just get 57 M3 with few miles. Would there be much in it after 2yrs as far as resale goes??

Won't comment on fun and which is best car as its really awesome V10 in bigger car vs awesome V8 in bit smaller more agile car?

Thanks

Who knows? I would gues "yes" as the M5 is older it should have lost more of it's face value price already and should therefore depreciate more slowly from here on in but as M3 is newer - it could be more desirable.

I've got two young kids (20months and 3 years) and we have an M3 coupe - it's fine. Car seats in the back, plenty of space and surprisingly easy to get the kids in and out.

I'd suggest you test drive them both and see which one is more appealing to you and buy that one. I wouldn't get overly bothered with which one will be worth more in 2 years time as I'd say that's a pretty tough call!

For re sale, I would 100% sat the M5, an 06 model with good spec now can be had for £33-34K smilesmilesmile

Test drive one, it is the best car you can get for the money IMHO! I was in the same dilemma in January, a child on the way and needed to sell the 911 for a 4 door. Had the RS4 in mind at first but after driving the M5, well, you know what I am sat in now wink

E92 is a cracking motor, but it lacks the humongous power of the M5 and basically looks like its younger brother.

Test drive both back to back, I think I know which one you will go for................ wink
