18 months back I had the A/C recharged and all was OK, altho the cold air was'nt as chilled as I thought it should have been. I ran it through last Summer and now and again overe winter. At the first real summer weather I found the A/C was not blowing any cold at all, altho the fan was working and A/C light on. Can't need recharging already. Opinions please.

Sounds like you have a leak, get it checked by someone who knows what they are doing. It will need pressuring with nitrogen with a dye in it. If it is a few years old it'll either have a pinhole leak and/or a leaky O ring seal.

Yes, sounds as if the recharge was not fully effective. If done again without an investigation you are simply leaking the refrigerant gas into the atmosphere - and your hard-earned with it.

some systems can loose their charge over a year to 18 months. A lot of the hoses are rubber which to a degree are porous and also there is a mechanical seal on the compressor, which if not oiled by switching on on a regular basis will dry out and leak. If you have a small leak, the system holds only approx 700 grms of refrigerant, so would probably only last a week, so I would guess at you just having to accept the issue. You could spend a fortune getting it nitrogen pressure tested and or putting a dye in, when a £30 top up every 18 months maybe the only answer. Not good for the environment, but you may never find the leak. Never put sealant into the system, unless it is dehydrated with a decent vacuum, as if there is moisture in there, will chrystalise the sealant and block up the system and wreck it.
