As per the title really, anyone had their 'low fuel' light go red?

I've owned a couple of BMW's and my low fuel light has always been yellow, however my (potentially) future brother in law has an E46 318 Cab and he tells me his is 'red'.

Is this normal on an E46?

It's possible (I've not seen this personally) and it may even be another light altogether....

(He isn't into his cars, as you may have guessed...)

He tells me it's the low fuel light on the fuel gauge.

If no-one on here (that has an E46) has ever had theirs in red, I'll tell him to start worrying...

Has it turned red having previously been amber (mine is a light amber colour)?

Or has he bought it and it is red? If the latter then maybe the bulb was replaced?

Also, a lot of people say "when the red light comes on" even though it might not be red - in my experience anyway?

Don't think he's ever seen it 'yelow/amber' so the bulb changing suggestion is certainly plausible...

They don't have yellow bulbs fitted, they are white, and they shine through an orange gel in the dial faces.
I doubt you'd be able to get a red bulb, it'd certainly take some tracking down compared to the normal one, so i'm pretty sure he's just confused

Never seen red before, and I have ran it below 0 miles on the OBC on a couple of occasions.
