Upgraded shocks
Discussion
Standard bilstein rear shocks need replacing on s2 111s 04 reg. Was wondering about upgrading. Would be interested to hear peoples views. The car is only used for spirited road use. Is it recommended to change the fronts aswell if i upgrade the rears. Will the springs need replacing aswell?
I am sure an expert will come along soon but Ohlin's are the premium choice - some people love the improved handling & then there is Nitron's.
Depends on your Budget, or find your self some standard replacements from peoples upgrades in the parts section.
If you replacing with different shocks you will need replace all 4 and then get a good geo done....
Let an expert give you more info.....

I'd always stick with Lotus parts, because Lotus are renowned experts at tuning springs and dampers (even Porsche and Ferrari probably look up to them!).
Anyway, that aside if you are changing it is essential to do all four at once. Your car will handle a bit funny if you just do one end!

just hit 40k miles one rear shock is leaking and the other is clunking and creaking badly, car hasnt felt right all summer should of sorted out sooner but service and new disks and pads all round took a big wedge out of lotus kitty. Not sure as yet on what price ill be looking at for replacement parts.

Probably talking around about 400.00 for a set of Bilstein's on here that are new ish - maybe less, and around 800 ish for a set from dealers Nitron's around 1000-1200 ish depedning on type and 1500 upwards for ohlins
But all back of the envolope figures, have look at elise parts..
Ohlims are super expensive (£2-3000) and despite the obvious thought that they will be outstanding there are lots of reported problems with them not lasting very long, although they can be refurbished.
Nitrons are next and are also supposed to be superb but again, with a geo, are c£1400 so pricey. They are making a ‘Street’series for about £600 but these have yet to be released and to be honest I’d wait and see how people get on with these.
Best bet at the moment seems to be Gaz Golds at about £600 with some very good reports about these.
