I've recently acquired 968 Club Sport which I intend to keep for weekend and possibly track day use.

Not only is it my first Porsche, but it's also my first 'classic' and I've got a couple of questions;

Are there any special precautions I need to take with regard to storage (I intend to be using the car at least once per week for a good run, it will be gargaed in between)?

Any pointers for insurance, my normal broker can't get a classic policy (despite the car being 10 years old) so I'm looking at around £2k for it on a standard policy because I only have 1 set of no claims.

Any advice will be gratefully received

Hi Tturbo,

Congrats on the 968 purchase :-) For insurance, I use Lancaster on a 10k miles PA classic scheme which also has the benefit of agreed valuation.
More details here Lancaster Insurance
They'll probably insist that you have a Thatcham cat 1 system even though your car is garaged. My premium is just over £600 BTW.

As you'll be using the car at least once a week, it shouldn't need anything specific for storage, just as long as the garage is dry of course!

Best,

Steve

I insure my CS through AON. Limited mileage, fully comp, agreed valuation, track use, premium about £400pa. You don't say how old you are, but I am 40 and have been with them for 10 years or so which may help a bit.
Generally with these policies it must be a second car and garaged.

Footman James will also be able to help re insurance. Remember most policies exclude track cover. Join Porcsche Club Great Britain (PCGB) and get Porsche Post, the mag. It has lots of specialist Porsche brokers advertising, inc their deals. One called Performance Marque covers PCGB trackdays fully comp.

Re storage, weekly use will be fine. Make sure you get cams/belts checked tho' if not been recently done.

Finally welcome and good choice of Porsche - if it has M030 an even better choice

Carole Nash do/did a classic policy which doesn't insist on the car being garaged.

Try Classic Insurance 01285 841555 (ask for Jamie). They will do classic insurance on cars 10 years old.

Did an excellent deal on my 964 (£361 + £250 excess) limited to 3.5K, but no track days.

Enjoy.

Thanks a lot guys.

The Carol Nash website says that they only consider cars from before 1983 to be classics, I take it that this is no longer the case?

I know for a fact they insure a 1992 car under an AXA classic policy...
