My current work availability means that I am working away from home as a Ltd company contractor.

As lady luck would have it, I've secured lodging in a granny flat under a big house, with a patio looking down the garden, and onto the River Severn. House is owned by an old school friend (of my wife more than me, but I was in her class from Top Juniors all the way to 6th Form, but as I say more my wife's friend) and her husband (Who clearly is no pistonhead).

I digress. They have a 3 car garage going to waste. I have my evenings going to waste.

Can you see where this is going ? Only been here 2 days, (will be here 4 nights a week for anything from 24 hrs to 50 weeks - if I read the terms and conditions correct)

How long before I make a move on use of the garage ?

I'd just come straight out and ask if they wouldn't mind you using it. No point being all coy about this sort of thing. If they say yes, then just buy them a nice bottle of red and some flowers as a thank you.

Tenancy agreement ? I'm renting from my wife's school friend. The agreement is verbal, and goes something like. £10 a night, plus I cook for them one night a week. Will be cooking lasagne on Monday Night in order to reheat tuesday, so I thought, over a glass of wine after the meal? Once they sample my cooking they'll agree to anything !!!

In terms of money, they don't appear to need any at all, what they seem to need is relate counselling and someone to stop their 3 kids killing each other.

Go subtle... Cook dinner, say how you've always wanted a garage like that and noticed that they don't really use it.

Agreed.

If the garage is empty, then just ask if they would object to you using one bay for some remedial work on a car.....

Just offer to wash their car if you're going to wash yours when you're there.
