Ok chaps...
Received the first of my bits from Reverie today, a cold airbox for the carb and some rocker covers (jewelry I know but I reckon they'll look lovely and hey, they save weight right?
).
Airbox looks great and comes with 100mm ducting that fits directly to the CF side intake vents that I've also ordered so you get 100% outside airflow into the carb.
The side vents have dual-intakes too, one for the ducting and one to pass fresh air into the engine bay.
Here's a pic of the bits:
I'll post another (or two) when it's all fitted to the car.
Alan.

Yes indeedy and a very good point...that's £1500's worth there and the side pods are still to come![]()
However there's nothing like cold, fresh air straight into your engine and engine bay![]()
Alan.
Should have bought mine mate as I already have these fitted
..... you must be getting the side scoops too. Must say that the other Sunday it was sunny but cold.... the car had been in the garage so was was warmish and I decided it needed an airing.
Anyhow after 5mins of driving at around 40mph the idle started to climb until it wasn't going below 3500rpm which as we all know makes the car very dificult to drive (around 500ft'lb at that engine speed).
I stopped and whipped the air filter off only to see ice on the buterfly holding it open, this quickly melted and the car was fine.
Basically the cold air being ducted to the carb had frozen it up.
Conclusion the side ducts with the ducting work extremelly well and are worth having.
Andy-
I realised you had the scoops but didn't know you had the airbox too...good to hear they work well!
I was indeed well tempted by your car however I really wanted a six-speed, however (having now driven mine for a while) I can now see that yours must be fine too with all the grunt on tap!
Stig-
If anything it's a little lower than the standard one, it's recessed on the underside, however it does spread out over a pretty wide area so with your s/c installation I wouldn't be sure if it'd fit.
I'll put a pic up of mine when I get it fitted, of course if you're anywhere near me and wanted to com and and take a look before I fit it you're welcome (I'm in Hertfordshire, near Stevenage).
Would be ideal if you could sit it in your engine bay to see!

Alan,
I'm near Stevenage too!
Would like to see your installation when fitted if that's ok.
I hav'nt been on this site all that long, only a few weeks so I don't know if you built your ultima your self.
What sort of engine have you got?
Not seen any Ultimas on the road near here. Saw one near Potters Bar in the summer but thats all.
Gary.

I don't have the air box but have the scoops and rocker covers.... I've had the air box fitted as they used my car to develope them.
The only reason I don't have the air box is because the side side ducts with the ducting to the carb has solved my problem of the carb not getting any cool air even with the scoop open. In fact it works better than I had hoped.
You'll have to let me know when you go to track and maybe we could go and terrorise it together, have you been to any yet?. Must be very different to the 340R, but how do they compare?
Gearbox choice is a much debated subject but one thing is clear is that there is not a perfect box that suits all Ultima's, like any car the box must be matched to the engine for maximum performance.
I think mine is perfectly matched and having driven a 6speed 400+bhp Ultima (GTRclive) I can say that that combination also worked extremelly well together. If we swoped boxs though we are positive both cars would be slower and less enjoyable.
CJ
The air box is designed to work in conjunction with the side scoops, I'm also unsure they would fit under the large hump that the GTR has as your carb is so much higher.
Worth a try though.

Andy
Andy,
According to their site, there's a different one for the GTR that uses the top scoop for the air. Was wondering if I could get a cut down verion to fit?
Gary,
small world as they say
Drop me an email via my profile and we'll have to meet up, you're welcome to come and look at the installation.
I didn't build the car myself, it was at the misfortune of someone who had it built by Griffin Mortorsport but had to sell before it was completed that I came by the car.
I've got the 383ci 400bhp Chevy engine from American Speed, dyno plot says 416bhp/473ft/lbs.
Andy,
It's a world apart from the 340R yes
I've yet to get it on track as I've only just got the running-in done, I cannot wait to give it a blast!
All I can say so far is that the acceleration is...erm..."adequate" shall we say in the circumstances I have been able to give it a little bit of a squirt
I pretty much like the gearing setup although the proof will be when I do get to track it of course.
I couldn't agree more too about matching engine output to gearing, very important to get right and when you do make the world of difference!
I'd love to meet up at a track, I'll let you know when I get one booked.
CJ,
as soon as I get time I'll get it installed and put a picture up.
Alan.

Same problem due to your carb being higher.... worth a dry fit though to see if it is possible.
Personelly I think some strategicly placed difusers on the canopy would do the trick for you by diverting the majority of hot air to the three vents rather than collecting in the hump....... Hmmmm, not easy to decribe what I mean though.... sort of like the fibreglass difusers around the rear wheels but at 45o and only 3-4in.
After all the worst of the heat is from the headers.
Andy
Andy,
Ideedy. Have already looked into additional venting in the canopy, but it's pretty expensive to have 3 CF scoops fitted to it (which is what I'd go for to keep the aesthetics looking good).
It's also why I'm getting the exhaust system coated. If I can get sufficient heat reduction by coating them - then job done!

I think what Andy was suggesting was a couple of fences strategically attached to the underside of the rear bodywork to deflect the hot air that comes in over the fuel tanks and headers down to the back of the car. The engine would then mostly be fed from the cold air coming in through the top scoop.
You don't need snazzy carbon fibre for anything. Glassfibre sheet (like the stuff you use for PCBs - without the copper obviously
) would be a good material to build them from.
Simple solution. I like it.

Dave is right
I mean small partitions on the INSIDE of the rear body to divert the hot air from the exhaust etc away from the carb area and encourage it to exit through the three vents each side of the hump.
This would help when the car was stationary.... if you need more when the car is moving you know what I recomend.

Am I reading this right?
Are we talking about a pair of vertical panels hanging from the underside of the engine cover effectively forming a wall between the carb and the headers?
They would come down almost onto the top of the rocker covers?
You could experiment with bits of hardboard or ali sheet to find if it works before laying down loads of dosh on CF sheets.
