couple of water related questions
Discussion
I've done a few searches of the forums, but have only found half the answers....
first: I have a little water coming in around the velcro bits, and a couple of posts on this subject say something about "rubber flappy bits" but I can't seem to work out where they are/should be. I don't think I have them? Can someone take a piccy for me?
second: I have spent some time looking for where the water is getting into the boot. It gets in each side, and sits in the sections directly behind the rear wheels. I've poured quite a few jugs of water over the car looking for the ingress points before finding 2 holes, one each side, directly behind the rear wheels. Should they be there? How do I stop water going up through them from the rear wheels and making puddles in the boot? Should there be grommets in them?
Thanks in advance,
Karl

BTW - I don't think the 'flappy bits' are to stop water - you'll see what I mean once I get the pic posted.

Ooooh, just the job thanks Pies. It shows where they should be.
It doesn't leak too much, but as it sits outside all the time, a little water is getting in when it rains.
I seem to remember reading a post recently where someone had bought something that would remove moisture from the air that they put behind the seats? Helped dry the carpets out? I can't find the thread using the search.... Am I dreaming? Am I crazy? Tune in again next time to see if I've dried my car. Same time, same bat channel.

Cheers Paul. I can see fresh air through the gap, so I would imagine rain in the right direction would get through?
Paul,
I've got the flappy velcro bits inside, as in your picture, I don't have the rubber elephant ears as per Big Al's post.
As for the holes, the ones I'm refering to are on the bottom of the "sill", behind the rear wheel on the bottom.... I don't know if that explains any better. I'll see if I can get a couple of pics outside in a moment.....
I have the bolt heads in the same place as your pic shows....

Super job thanks Pies. For a computer engineer I sure am crap at this search lark!
Looks like I'll be popping down to Halfrauds tomorrow to see if they have any of these "Moisture Mate" thingies....

I can see what Big Al means now - mine has these missing too....might make up a pair sometime.
Doesn't yours live in a garage though? If so, the problem would be largely reduced.

Yup - it lives in the garage, but when it has sat in outside a pub or driven in heavy rain, it still gets damp down the inside carpet - I suspect the 'ears' would fix that.

Karl, when you receive Chris's ears, give me a call - I'd like to come round to make a template for my car. Cheers, Paul.
Thanks for your offer Chris, but I've already accepted Big Al's offer to post me a couple.
Paul: I'll give you a shout when they arrive so you can take a peek.

Quick apology to anyone on dial-up.....
Right, the hole I mean can just about be seen in the bottom left hand corner of this pic:
and to the left of the irregular hole I just found by taking a picture of the affected area
it's the bit directly below this bit of the boot floor :
