Hi All,

I've been trying to lose weight for about a month now and have been watching what I eat/drink at the same time but quite often I'm getting a bloated feeling in my stomach.

I know I haven't given the exercise another time to kick start the weight loss but I'm feeling bigger than ever half the time.

I have cut out the booze and chocolate (although still like a bit of cheese occasionally) and normally have fruit on my cereal in the morning and some with my lunch but still don't seem to want to go to the loo!

I've noticed in the last week or so i've been very thirsty so i'm going to up the water intake as much as I can.

It's annoying because I feel so much better in myself after session at the gym but I am as big as ever on my waist/hips (where I seem to add weight quickly).

Exercise wise i'm trying to do 2 sessions of cardio (45mins of swimming or in the gym) and 2 sessions of resistance (again 45mins). I'm following the exercise programme set out by the trainer and i'm eating less but my body seems to think i'm starving it and is holding onto everything I put in!

Anyway of kick starting the weight loss?

It could be due to the type of food you are eating. Have you started eating bran? Or pasta. A few things can give you that bloated feeling. I get the feeling from anything brown/wholegrain.

I find a good way of kickstarting a diet is to have the occassional day where you eat more than normal. It seems to kick your body out of starvation mode. I managed to lose the most weight when I was very calorie restrictive for 9 days, and ate normally on the 10th day. I did this regularly and had a constant 2lbs per week coming off (with exercise as well)

Give all of the dairy products a miss. That's cheese, yoghurt, milk, chocolate and anything that contains milk products (which is a hell of alot if you read the labelling). You can substitute cow's milk for rice or soya milk with cereals etc. You can use coconut milk in cooking if the dish needs milk, obviously will give it a different taste butthen you can try new recipes anyway such as Thai/Indian etc.

I can probably guess exactly what this is biggrin

If you've just cut a load of things out of your diet but kept up with the diary you are probably triggering a bit of an intollerance. Most people have this but never notice as milk/diary is a small % of the diet.

This impact is especially noticeable if you suddenly injest a load of milk on an empty stomach.

Fruit as well is generally acidic and again, on an empty stomach in the morning can irritate the old gut.

Wheat can have a similar effect.

Generally, bread and milk cause minor issues for most people but goes unnoticed, but when you suddenly go on a diet and start chucking milk into an empty stomach it can be quite uncomfortable.

Cutting as much bread and dairy from your diet will make most people feel much better.

Also, substitute white pasta with wholemeal pasta and white rice with brown rice. You'll need less volume of each and they will both have a much lower GI.

So annoying! The two things I could happily eat all day are cheese and bread!

I've brought in a salad today for lunch to try and get rid of the bread (although I did have cereal and milk this morning).

I really don't fancy soy milk!

Will see how i get on, I gorged at a bit over the weekend and that seemed to get everything flowing again wink

They say it's the things you enjoy the most that you're often intolerant to. I used to love bread and pasta, could have lived on the stuff. Turns out I'm intolerant to both.
