Hi all car at 15k miles now and first (oil) service is due. Need to find out what others have paid as don't want to be fleeced!

Waiting for dealer to call back with quote for changing oil, microfilter and air filter? Is it right the air filter is due?

He says they are changed every 2nd service so it is due now as he's counting the 1200mile oil change as the first service? But this would mean the factory installed filter only sees 15k miles service whereas the new one would go on for a lot longer?

Speedy replies much appreciated, thanks in advance.

Been told its anywhere between £250 and £350 depending on what filters need changing.

sorry don't know the costs; but note that brake fluid needs changing at 2 year anniversary, just had mine done last week, in case you wanted to get everything done at the same time.

Hi MC99, I don't mean to be cheeky, but how much did you pay? My first service is not due yet but will be close to 2 years old when it is.

Cheers,

If you have a look at service menu in the car using the iDrive it will tell you what/when needs changing. I think it's Main menu then Info sources and then the Service option. If you select each item in turn it will give you the info you need. Also useful to find out when your front and rear pads need changing as well.

Hop this helps.

Thanks for the info and you did well indeed to get a freebie.

The last time I took my car in I asked them to fill it up the screen wash but they forgot. Which is great as it brings up an error code which they also failed to spot. No biggy but when I booked it in they were selling me the virtues of using the correct BMW screen wash with cleaners in to prevent mould/debri build up and avoid issues later down the line.

Something for free is not to be sniffed at.

Just playing around last night and couldn't but get the feeling that this condition based stuff is a bit of a palaver?

Eg it wants another oil service in 14k miles and then a 'vehicle check' 3k miles after that? And also brake fluid in 5 months time?

Not just on M cars either, my brother in law recently had his 325 oil service and now 2 months later it wants a vehicle check!

Agreed the condition based servicing is a pain - and because we paid for the TLC pack on my wifes Mini, so everything is free (well - paid for in advance) for the first 5 years, 50,000 miles - they will not deviate from the menu servicing - so you can end up going back to the garage a number of times in relatively quick succession.

Yeah seems like a definite step backwards, cars used to need a service every 10k then audi and others stretched it to 20k and now its gone back again. They've probably realised 20k service intervals aren't that lucrative.

Also noticed yesterday that the car is showing not as much oil as it should have! Should be one bar off totally full, but it's 2. £407 for a glorified oil change and they still get it wrong. mad

I'm 50/50 on this (I do less mileage now than ever..so maybe that's swaying me)..but I suppose it does mean you don't get one huge bill every "so-often". I would prefer there's some sense of logic, particularly on the smaller stuff - which I find there often isn't, as if you're covering alot of miles, it can (as said before) mean lots of trips for each thing.
