After months of searching and pratting about, i have finally got myself into the world of M3 ownership. 94, 3.0 65K on the clock. Not perfect, but at the same time not bad either. Will probably plague the forum with loads of questions now. Doesnt need anything right now, but i may look to changing the discs and pads in the not too distant future. Anyone have any ideas on good suppliers? I wont be giving it too much of a hard time, so OEM parts will do. Any recommendations/advice welcome
Cheers

Stick with the OEM discs. Really.
Pads I'm sure plenty of people will be along shortly.

welcome to the club.

if you change anything, change the suspension and get it balanced and corner-weighted. The handling on mine is staggering now that's done.

I run standard disks and EBC yellow race pads. But I do track so that's why. Pads work perfectly on the road too.

Nice. Look after it, make only tasteful modifications and it will bring lots of fun and miles of high speed happiness...!

I found some EBC discs for £100 (fronts) which were better than standard. Pads are best left standard.

Thanks Guys. Any recommendations on where to buy the discs and pads? German and Swedish were mentioned in another thread.

Discs from a main dealer (stay OEM).

Pads - depends what you want. Ferrodo, Pagid or Performance Friction all work well. I get my Pagids from www.performancebraking.co.uk.

Congratulations. Looking forward to seeing some pictures. That's a really low mileage example for that age. Enjoy!

Congrats clap

DO NOT buy aftermarket discs though. Pay a little extra and get the genuine items. They will last far longer and offer better braking performance to boot.

+1, however don't pay main dealer RRP rates. There are ways and means of getting genuine parts from main dealers at sensible rates ... Do you know anyone in the trade that could buy on your behalf.

Fitted through my Indy that uses genuine parts with minimal margins added over trade plus VAT.

Discs and pads fitted for less than the RRP of the discs alone from the main dealer.

Sadly, i dont have any contacts in the trade. I'll call a couple of dealers and see what sort of prices they are quotimg.

I have used him (Toby) for loads of parts for my M5, and he has saved me a pretty penny

www.realoem.com for part numbers if you need them

It is possible to fit the floating M3 evo discs which would be a nice upgrade to the 3.0 although you might have to change some other parts, a quick search on e36coupe.com will reveal info.

The additional cost does not translate into an appreciable gain in any braking performance. I'd rather go aftermarket, or simply OEM for the discs, but aftermarket for the pads plus AP fluid.

£4K. Car isnt perfect, but for me the low miles make it worth the punt. I was very sceptical about this, but the SH and old MOT's certainly stack up.
