Think we've just learnt the hard way.

The supermarket chain that asks you to "try something new today" has just fked me off big time.

In our grocery order delivered yesterday, we ordered some wine on special offer. At delivery they explained that the one we ordered was not in stock, but they have provided an alternative. Fine I said, looks the same sort to me. We drank some last night, and this morning the O/H went through the receipt for the groceries. The substitue was 60% more expensive than the one we ordered.

They said that we could return the wine to the store ourselves for a full refund. Which is nice of them, apart from the reason I do online groceries is so I don't have to go to the bloddy store, and the cost in fuel would probable wipe out most refund after we bought some alternatives.

Yes I should have checked, but I trusted them to provide alternatives that are comparable in both product and cost. rolleyes

I'll be checking in detail in the future!

When they did something similar with us, Sainsburys said to keep the booze, and they credited it back for the next shop. Free is good smile

The good bit with Asda's home delivery service is if the substitute is more expensive you get it at the same rate.

Having said that i've never had that problem with Sainsbury's.

Just had my second delivery and I am hooked. Everything arrived exactly as ordered ( Asda) and I don't have to rub shoulders with the swine flu infected, football shirted inbreds that usually block my way with their wobbly armed wives, gormless looks and traineee ASBO kids. I like it so much I have taken out their credit card to get free delivery in future.

My Asda trip used to take almost 2 hours a week to get there, park, shop, and get back. Now it is on an auto-list and done in 10 minutes or less, saving me around 100 hours a year (or 2 weeks work). And I don't buy trolley loads of crap I don't really need on impuluse because they are 2-4-1.

Always checked it and have reported any discrepancies immediately - usually resulting in a refund for missing items and letting us keep anything delivered in error.

Any substituted items are usually packed separately and at the top or bottom of the bill/receipt - so easy to identify. But it can be confusing when the price of the item not in stock is not printed.

I think Tesco did put both prices in.

As per use the best link above. I can only agree. In my experience they never get it wrong and a replacement is a rare thing.

We try something new every week. The replacements are in separate blue bags - but it is thoroughly annoying that they don't compare cost on the replacements sheet.

Yes - we check thoroughly!

Used Tesco a few times, and when they arrived outside the 2hr delivery slot they refunded the charge after I mentioned it.

I only use Ocado myself - Tesco didn't show at all (eventually phoned to say they had no drivers that day, well after they were due to deliver) and Sainsburys kept giving me random substitutions and almost out of date food.

Going to try Ocado soon, as Sainsburys seem to be getting a bit sloppy. Some products I choose seem to be substituted every other time, and fresh stuff may only have a day or two to go, which is pretty lame if your buying in stuff to take in to work.

Seemed much better at first, but seemed to have got expensive for deliveries and not as many slots unless they are days away... Ocado seem tons better!

I dont think Ocado substitute (well they never have with me) they simply don't deliver an alternative which I would rather if I am honest. They also do not question refunds on damaged or missing products.

I don't check "in detail" but I do read the substitutes list they give you to see if they are suitable.

If things are wrong/missing (other than subs) then phone them and they refund over the phone.

Ocado do substitute, they certainly have done so with me on a couple of occasions, but they text/email to say they have done so before delivery and the driver points it out to you too.

Well the good news is that the Sainburys store called yesterday to get the full story, andthey were a bit shocked at teh price difference, and have offered to refund the difference.

However, friends have just recomended us at Ocado, so we'll be giving them a go this week.

Tesco have been great. I always check the delivery note and it's always spot on or has differences well highlighted, including a couple of short dated items. 10/10.
