Very sad.
BBC News said:
A man has been killed in a crash during powerboat racing at Dover Regatta.
Dover coastguard said two boats had collided during the event - as hundreds of people at Dover harbour looked on.
South East Coast Ambulance Service said the man, who was in his 40s, had been due to be airlifted to hospital but had died at the scene.
Kent fire service, which sent two fire crews, had earlier reported at least one person had been trapped. Emergency services were alerted at 1240 BST.
A police spokeswoman said the collision happened while two powerboats were taking part in an organised race during the regatta.
We had to shield the casualty from the eyes of the people watching. A lot of people were under the impression that it was a display
Simon Smith, Dover Fire Station
She said there were four people travelling in the boats at the time.
One of them suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man has not yet been identified, but his family have been informed.
A Kent Police investigation is under way.
The manager of Dover Fire Station said the crash happened "well out into the harbour", while hundreds of people were watching.
He said: "There were several hundred people watching the event and they carried on watching the emergency services working there together.
Police and Dover Harbour Board are investigating the incident
"We had to shield the casualty from the eyes of the people watching. A lot of people were under the impression that it was a display."
Dover Harbour Board issued a statement which confirmed the fatal collision happened during an organised race at Dover Regatta.
It said: "An investigation into the incident has commenced, but no further details can be given at this time."
The two-day regatta is an annual event organised by the Dover Seaports Development Trust, it added.
Simon Smith, from Kent Fire and Rescue Service, told the BBC: "What appears to have happened is that two speedboats that were taking part in the regatta have collided.
"One of the people in the boat was very seriously injured.
"The boat was dragged to the shore where Kent Fire and Rescue Service and the ambulance service worked together to remove the person from the boat, under the command of the air ambulance doctor that attended."
