Inspiration taken from a friend of mine who told a girl he was chatting up last night that he was single and that he was a pilot.

Turned out it was his girlfriends cousin that he ended up with.

However, his girlfriends cousin also said she was single and took my friend back to her boyfriends house who was on holiday at the time.

Friend went out for a smoke in the morning, at the same time next door were heading out. Short conversation with neighbour exposed the lie - he admitted he too had lied and that maybe they should chalk this one down to experience - explained a bit about his girlfriend, she realised it was her cousin. Cousins mother comes up the path, and into the house via the open front door.

Awkward explaining moment.

My mum would do that, so would my dad. They have keys to my sister's place and when they go round they don't bother knocking, they just unlock the door and waltz in and say hello when my sister shows up to see what's happening. They'd be a little more circumspect with a boyfriend's house but they'd still regard an open front door as an invitation to march straight in willy-nilly.

I live in a small town/village - we have a lock on our door. It saved on removal and estate agents fees.
