This could be the slowest average speed for any 24 hour race....
But it's still racing and some of the scraps are quite exciting

I was one of the two team managers a few years ago - we won our class.
Although people laugh a little at the idea of 24 hours of 2CV racing, it was one of the best things i've ever done. I took the night shift as the other team manager had kids, so it was better for him to do the day shift.
Getting our hands on the trophy was uttelry brilliant and the team were all agood bunch of guys - as were the other teams, it was competitive but also friendly with everyone helping each ther out.

I notice that at the last historic touring cars round at Snetterton the slowest Ford RS2000 was going round in 1'33" at best - the fastest 2CV is currently doing 1' 48s in the dark with 1400cc less
Please! The general lap times were 1:50 - 1:52, and actually the things seemed to be quicker in the cooler air of the evening/night. Top speed was reached under the bridge at the end of the straight - a mind blowing 76mph!! My brother was in the Stringray No 5 car, and the big thing is the tow from the car in front makes all the difference - it can be 4-6 sec's slower with no tow. It was a well run event, with fantastic live coverage/timings on the web - but I can assure you, I think it's more interesting racing in the event, than watching it!

I was also in the No 5 car with your brother Kevin. Could write a book on the dramas we had but it is truly a fantastic event and there is more strategy involved in this than any other race, mainly based around the desire for a "good" tow (for a little speed increase down the straights and to eek out the fuel)
Kevin did a truly great job and I'm sure he would agree that the last stint he did in the car was the hardest thing he'd ever done, I slapped him on the back after his stint and and he squealched

That wasn't our car, not sure which car number it was but apparently someone had done some wind-tunnel work (not on a 2CV) and found that a [rough] surface smooths air-flow and reduces drag so decided to put sandpaper on the roof of their 2CV racecar.
There is some truth in the rough surface theory but mainly for reducng drag through water. As (for the moment) the 2CV 24hr is on land it didn't quite work but was probably a bugger to get off!

Good to hear from you Malcolm, and I've passed your email on.
Kev seems abit worn out today, but I know he enjoyed the 2CV experience. I'm abit worried, because he's out in the Ginetta at the weekend - and he must remember to brake at the end of the straights!!
The main memory for me was watching Carl Breeze spin early on while fighting for the lead - and then he spent the next hour (!) catching up the 400/500 yards he lost because he had no tow. Things don't happen quickly in this race.
Anyway, well done for finishing, which is the prime objective at outset.
