Hi chaps, I don't usual frequent this forum, although in years past I've done the 3, 5 and 7 series thing.

Thinking about my new car. Does a 740i E38 exist in manual - I suspect not, but I really don't like Auto that much.

cheers,
Jimbo

Nope I'm afraid not. BMW only made one manual and it was for the film The Transporter. According to IMDB (movie website) some after market conversion's were available using them anual gearbox from the 8 series, however seeing how rare a manual 8 series is I would imagine not many were converted.

Hope that helps

That's strange. I drove a 740 afew months ago and I am pretty sure that it was not the one from the film. I am going to check if the garage has still got the car for sale. Obviously it is a LHD.

ETA A few from Autoscout24

  1. Frank's car is a BMW 750i E38 (pre-facelift). The car in the movie is the only one ever produced with a manual six-speed gearbox. This information is obtained from the full-length audio commentary available on the DVD. People have made conversions using the manual gearbox from the BMW 850CSi E31 but that car is genuinely rare.
.... that clears that up.

You can manualise them from an E34 V8 (530i 5sp or 540i 6sp)

I'd love one, but I doubt it would fit in my garage frown

See here for a current conversion taking place smile
