Smiling with your mouth shut
Discussion
I used to have a female supervisor whom I have kept in touch with via facebook.
Something always did bother me about her anyway (don't get me started!), but I've noticed, in all her 100s of photos she has of herself on facebook, not once does she smile with her mouth open (as in showing teeth). Thinking back I don't think I ever saw the woman smile with her mouth open.
Am I alone in thinking this a little creepy and repressed?

I have been accused of this. Apparently I always smile with my mouth shut, never showing my teeth. I don't know why this happens, I have never made a conscious effort to smile like this and my teeth are ok.
It's not something I was aware of until someone pointed it out to me a few years ago while taking some pictures for a company newsletter.

Think back- are you sure she had teeth- or did you mind/memory fill that in?
I used to sit facing her about 6 foot away, but you might be right ...There's a take over going on right under our very noses!
Never trust anyone who shows to much gums when smiling http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/imgs/4.gifing.

Smiles (like laughs) are habitual. You can re-train yourself, but normally you do it without thought.
Maybe you just weren't as funny as you thought you were?

Cheers for the replies though, I know it sounds petty but it's been niggling at me.

This is very true. I, personally, myself, look like a right gimp when I give it full beam.
king lunatics when they smile. Also, smiling tends to accentuate my wrinkles, so I avoid it wherever possible.
Consequently, I appear a miserable sod. Which I'm not. Maybe.
