Anyone else seen this yet - it came out on DVD last week i believe. It was hyped as the best horror film in ages, so i was really looking forward to it. Although i thought it was OK, i must say i was somewhat disappointed. More often than not it just came across as a rather arty swedish film with lots of silent, eerie camera shots of a depressing cold town somewhere in Sweden woth lots of pale kids.

Tempted to get the book of this as it is supposed to be great. Didn't know the film was out yet. Was it straight to DVD?

No it was out at the cinema too i think. I too am tempted to get the book, because as is always the case, the film 'edited out' a lot of the darker underlying themes of the book.

Glad someone else thought this too. Watched this last week and was very disappointed with it all. I watched the dubbed version, so don't know if that didn't help, but everything they show you on the DVD advert is all the action that happens, else it's just a very slow film with not a lot happening.

Yep, the relationship between the young girl and her carer comes across as father/daughter in the film but was in fact paedo/child in the book.

Saw this at the weekend and quite liked it. However, its more of a beautifully shot and acted love story than a vampire horror film. The reviews i'd read made that clear so i didn't go into it expecting a From Dusk 'til Dawn style action/horror and was not disappointed....

I agree with you to an extent, and i did expect and positively wanted something different to your typical slasher film. But when many reviews say 'the best horror film of the year' and even the DVD case says this, i do find it a tad misleading.
