When was the last time you saw someone wearing a gold watch?
Discussion
When I'm on the train I often have a look to see what watches people are wearing. Just really for something to do and I find it quite interesting.
I cant remember seeing someone wearing a gold/gold tone watch, except for the odd woman now and then. What is the general opinion of them? Too showy? Chav? Bling? Vulgar? Or are people just hiding them away for special occasions?
I wear these two on a regular basis. Usually for work.
An old automatic Longines: Probably would look a bit showy if it were large, but it's fairly small compared to a modern watch. I could imagine someones Grandfather wearing this, but that's part of the enjoyment of wearing it. I thought it had a sort of Art Deco look about it, which is a style I have always liked, not just for watches.

A 70s hand wound Wostok. Bigger than the Longines, but has a thin case. I bought this because I loved the style of the numerals, even though it only has two.

I have a rose gold (so not the bling shiney yellow gold) JLC Reverso.
While it's not worn that often, especialy as it's been in bloody Switzerland forever being serviced, it does get outings when I'm wearing stuff that goes with it. It has a brown strap so tend to wear it when I'm wearing brown shoes/belt etc...

Interestly, I met up with someone over the weekend who I hadn't seen for a while who had a solid gold Sub on - looked very bling. Not at all subtle.
Saw a guy in a post office with one of those. I couldn't help but stare. He might as well have had a strap-on strapped to his head.Quite often recently:
1) Nick (my hairdresser) is a massive watch fan. On Thursday when I went he was wearing a 1940's gold Rolex on a black croc strap
2) Went to my business partner's house yesterday afternoon and her hubby had an 18ct Breitling on
3) Went for chinese meal during the week and Jack had his usual watch on. An 18ct Rolex Sub with diamond bezel, face and bracelet. I actually fear that one day someone is going to come in to his restaurant and machete his hand off for it but he insists he's "safe"

I do own a gold watch. Well, I think it's gold. It's a Lumbers (a jewellers in Leicester) watch, about 34mm, that I inherited from my grandfather. ETA 2824-2 inside. I don't much like the strap, which is going to get changed.

One thing that's notable is that it's tiny.
Here it is, next to the PO I wear most days:

I wear one of these every day, I know they're a bit cheap and vulgar
