GT Racer on Dave
Discussion
Does anyone else watch this? Its on Dave ja Vu now, 6 hours Spa race.
I love it, its great to see older machinery being put through its paces, and I love the fact theres no commentator/narrator, its just footage of the cars racing and the teams/drivers giving their point of view to camera.

I love the cars, but it's really poorly put together; repetitive, poor interviews, lack of interesting, or comprehensive, cameras. I'd say it lacks in having a focus, or point.
If anyone from the production company reads this, please do try to build some sort of narrative to engage with the audience; at the moment, it's all a bit "dithering" and doesn't do the wonderful cars justice. Maybe add some classic footage to add context, or have someone front it (Derek Bell with a suitably glamorous assistant to tease those interviews out of those old boys....I'm sure they'd love that!), but it does need something to hold it all together.
Sorry, don't mean to be negative, it's just that with those wonderful and characterful cars, it could be so much better!

Sorry to reserect this old thread, but i was just watching this on Dave and thought id search PH for any mention of it.
I find it a real pleasure to watch and i think the lack of commenatry is one of the reasons. We get to hear the engines !
One thing i noticed though is the way the drivers ( particularly of the DD300 Aston ) is 100% on/off/on/off the power going round the corners, whilst seesawing at the wheel. Is that really the best way to drive these old cars ? Surely its putting lots of unnessesary stress on the car and increasing the chances that the grip will be broken leading to a spin.
I am sure driving on massive sidewalls will need a different driving style. Is this it ?

I have 2 GT Racer series on DVD and project them onto a white wall inside the house, or the entire back wall of the house when we have house parties. They're so compelling and make great ambient viewing or really chilled viewing when I wake up early on a Sunday morning .
Good call - will do that for the next party!

Was thinking exactly the same about the above too. The first driver (The German I think?) seemed to be more subtle. The English guy in the Aston was stabbing the pedal and was thrashing at the wheel
It's a way of keeping weight over the front wheels, thus reducing understeer. There's a video on YT of Ayrton Senna driving an NSX on track and he does the same.

Can understand the throttle bit as have seen the Senna videos. But the see-sawing of the wheel seemed weird? Does that have same effect? There's a video on YT of Ayrton Senna driving an NSX on track and he does the same.
