I was just reading an article in a magazine regarding sites such as this :

http://www.homeforexchange.com/

One of the founders of such a website claims he's never heard of any disasters save for the odd dirty sink and a scrape on a car.

Has anyone done this / know of anyone who has ? Once I'd stashed all the valuables it seems like a good idea.

The missus will probably think it's a load of cobblers, but it'd be nice to get some real world input.

Would you trust the family? (Please don't drop the old "if you can't trust you can't be trusted" saying because we all know that's nonsense.)

Have you seen the movie 'The Holiday'? The house swap worked out superbly for Kate Winslett and Cameron Diaz. I was forced to watch it yesterday, no doubt your missus will love it.

It's not a terrible film to watch, bearing in mind one of the 2 lead actresses is bound to be on cam each moment of the film wink

I woudl have thought that this would be fine - after all you both have to trust each other not to trash each other's houses. Looks like a good idea to me.

It wouldn't mind swapping my place for the nice one with a pool on the Cote D'Azur! I would feel a little sorry for the family visiting the UK though!

Hmmm, missus hasn't entirely dismissed the idea. We have a nice little flat in Olso, surely someone in New York / Florida would do a swap. I've had a quick look and an alarming amount of penny pinching New Yorkers are only interested in a swap to Israel.

I guess the hard part would be synching the flights / time off work with complete strangers.

Might not be worth all the hassle to save a few quid.
