crycrycry Just on my way home and a Evo came speeding round a tight corner and I moved over a bit and felt it cry. Not quite sure if I hit a pot hole or actually scraped a curb . I've checked the car and the passenger front wheel is curbed slightly and I'm gutted. Worse though that that is I've found to tears in the tyre, I've posted the picture's below to show you. I was wondering is there anything I can do about it or will I have to just buy a new one?

I was also wondering if I can just buy one tyre or if I have to buy a whole new set? The reason I'm asking is because when I got the car serviced in April I was told that the tyres I have on the car are no longer in production, so I have to buy different ones and the ones I have to buy can only be bought in sets of 4? Anyone else had this any experience with this?

Thanks in advance

Not an owner myself, but I think you should do a whole set.

As someone on here once said (Can't remember who, sorry!);

"Why would you skimp on the only part of your car that touches the road?"

the bit on your tyre thats ripped is there so as you dont kurb your wheels when parking..It is only superficial and should'nt make any difference..Wheel will refurb cost about 60.00.. Go on internet & you will find your tyres in stock somewhere..
I own a body shop & here this all the time.. They just cant be bothered, Also it will sell them a complete set instead of 1.. Not Being a tight wod,, Get your car down to a good tyre Bay & have your cart Geo checked if & when new tyre is fitted.....
Hope this helps

Depending on how deep the rip on the tyre is - I agree with yellowgriff, that you could survive without a replacement - Indeed I sold a car last week that had 2 rips like that on the side , the dealer said he would just use super glue to lay it back in... Alloy refurb costs between 35-70GBP...

that's an easy <£100 wheel refurb
and from the photos it's just the tyre's wheel protector that's damaged : the tyre's structurally fine
if it sounds slightly like i know what i'm talking about, it's because i did the same to my gallardo wheel last sunday frown

That is a scratch and hardly worthy of a thread. If you replace a tyre/wheel because of that, you have more money than sense

You can get the alloys refurbed these days to looking almost as good as new, unless you know where the damage was you would never, ever spot it... However, to be honest i wouldnt get it done just yet. wait a while and see if you kerb them anymore as refurbishment is ussually about 40-50 quid per wheel. If you go near Halfords for the refurb though i will have to slap you.

As for the rips in the tyre, the first rip is on the extra rubber which is built in to protect the tyre and is absolutly fine, the second rip is on the wall though and so wont have as a thick of a rubber on it, If it was me pearonally I would probably want to get new one as if it has torn too deep its potentially a blow out. But if you have a look and it is litrally just a little incision use your own judgment mate.

I tend to get my tyres replaced in pairs as i cant afford all round in one go, i know its better to get the whole set done but in reality just drive careful untill you have worn the new set in and not a problem. Obv by a set i mean the two front OR two back. not one back and one front!

Do get the geometry checked, I just carpark curbed mine at around 5mph and it was enough to knock it off... (presuming it was right in the first place I guess!)

i would wear all 4 tyres out then get 4 new ones, the wheel refurbed and the allignment done.

but as you own a gallardo you should probably just buy 4 new michelins and 1 brand new alloy from lamborghini.

You're mental if you don't replace that tyre! The rip is out to the large printed section and you've no way of knowing what damage lies underneath without at least taking it for a full off-rim inspection. It's on the sidewall too, which is the softest section. You own a Lambo, not a Pug 205, just change it.

Thanks for all the responses so far. I'm going to get it checked out and I'll probably just get a new tyre. The problem is the closest Lambo garage is 120 miles away so I'll have to get one ordered in. The other thing is I think I got a new set of tyres when the car was serviced in April (it's done 40 miles since) so it would be a shame if I had to get a whole new set, but oh well it's not the end of the world.

Thanks again

If the other tyres have only done 40 miles then just replace that one.

40 miles SINCE APRIL!!! what have you been doing!! I admire your willpower. I couldn't keep from doing 40 miles in a week let alone 4 months. Just get a new tyre and get driving!!!!
