Hi all.My mate came up today to weld in two new tubes one where the fuel pump mounts one the opposite side.Out riggers are all sound.now painted with wax oil.A few more coats through the week .Should i repaint the complete chassis which has good grey powder coating intact.or just wax oil the complete chassis with wax oil.Or por15 complete chassis .Then wax oil on top of the new paint.I welcome your thougths..........Cheers Mike

When you say "painted" with wax oil, you haven't put that on the bare metal have you? The chassis needs to be painted properly, the waxoil is just an extra layer of protection to keep moisture out.

Suggest you ask the people who specified bonda primer. Just from the name I would guess it's designed to have another protective layer on top of it, and perhaps they can suggest what's most suitable. POR15 might work, although as far as I remember that's designed to be applied to bare metal rather than over primer. I would ignore the waxoil in terms of rust prevention, it's applied last over the top of the paint and not instead of it.

IMHO waxoyl sucks the big one. It's a pain to clean off when you need to, and did little to stop the rust on my car in the long run.

I think you'd be better off powder coating than painting if your budget allows.

POR15 is best applied to primer or rusty metal it does not stick that well to bare metal, it's ok if used there metal ready stuff, but would recommend using primer on the bare metal then POR15. If done right is very good stuff, been though a few gravel traps, and the racer chassis has still got the POR15 on it.
