I'm considering an ECU re-map for the Vantage.
Currently have the AM Power Upgrade and sports cats fitted.

Anyone had any work like this done?

Have only found two places which offer this type of work ; Paramount Performance and Torque Developments International.
(Prodrive also do some ECU fettling on their performace package but I reckon the AM version also does a certain amount of recalibration ?)

Gains of up to 35bhp are advertised.
Would be interested in any relevant feedback on the topic....

do a search - been a few threads on here and AMOC forums about them

personally Id go to Torque Developments (if thats the one in Thurrock) as the guys there really know what they are doing (some ex Prodrive engineers) and they actually have a dyno thats as accurate as it gets (used by a some race series for bhp/ton calculations)

as for power gains - Id take the 35bhp with a pinch of salt, thats more likely the TOTAL gain if you do exhaust/cats AND a remap

If you are really bothered about the bhp Id get a "before" dyno run as a benchmark from an indepandant dyno (as in indepandant to the one thats doing the work) and then go back there afterwards

Even if it was 35bhp, it isnt going to turn it into a dragster im afraid.....

sounds to me like you should sell your Aston and go buy a Nissan Skyline or Japanese import with one of those big exhausts..........or you could just leave the Aston alone and be happy with your fantastic car smile

Doesn't the AM power upgrade tweak the ecu anyway? I thought the package took the 4.3 up to around 425bhp??

Doubt you'll get much more than this without significant other mods.

but the temptation of getting the similar for £5K of bolt on tuning is too much for some wink

ive read reports of people fitting sports cats, exhausts + the AM official kit (remap, airboxes, plenum chamber) and getting 413bhp ...still not quite a 4.7

I guess if it was just £5K of bolt ons and a remap to make 425bhp, then Aston wouldnt have bothered adding 400cc in capacity wink

Thanks Michael!

You'll be happy to know I had a GT-R on order but decided on a 2nd hand V8V instead.
Quick as the "legend" is (I had a test drive) it's got about as much charm as a plate of tripe.
And it's truly enormous... and it's pig ugly... and the interior is bland... and the list goes on...

Leaving the Aston alone isn't an option if I can make it a bit quicker.
Crikey, who WOULDN'T want that !??

Be aware that your ECU has already had a re-map when the Aston power upgrade was fitted.

Not saying that you can't have another map put on obvioulsy....

Thank god you didn't take up the GT-R option......( very lower order smile )I just think all these bolt ons, new exhausts, remapping is a joke.....they cost a fortune with little reward, its a bit like when I was a little boy and I attached mirrors, handle bar tassles, and light reflectors to my push bike .....far better keep the money and put it towards a new car when the time comes to change

But as a boy did your tassles (!) not make you smile? And make you enjoy the bike that bit more?

It's no different with the Aston. Being sensible in terms of the money angle doesn't really come into it. If it did, none of us would buy Astons!

I personally don't think the OP will get much of a difference over and above the factory upgrade he's had. But ultimately it's his call.

We also need to be careful not to be too blinkered - the car can most definitely be improved. Even the 4.7 has it's faults. And sometimes, if you have a particularly nice example, it's preferable to keep it and tweak it than to hack it in.

Now, if someone would only do a properly tweaked throttle I'd be spending some money!

well yes I loved my tasseles on my bike.... but I grew up ......now I like my tasseles on womens naked breasts smile

your never going to convince me that spending 5K on aftermarket bolt ons so I can get to 60...0.2 of a second quicker is worth it, but I do understand that some remapping can improve somer cars

Anyway my best advise as previous, is flog the the V8V and get yourself a DB9 with a proper engine blah

Or even trade it for a quick car like a 4.7 Vantage?

I was about to say "more fool you" until the second part of the sentence. Which at least proves in part you're not fully grown up!

Are breasts naked if adorned with tassels? Discuss...

Generally I'm not disagreeing with you. Though a sports exhaust is often a good buy for the grin factor. And if I had the balls, the 500bhp supercharger mod would make life interesting.

Never got on with the looks of the DB9. Call me a heretic, but I think the front looks like a fish!

I am also allergic to 4 seaters (no matter how vestigial the rears). I have, you see, yet to feel the urge to grow up properly biggrin

Well I'm afraid I'm at the, er, lower end of the disposable income ladder.
Justifying a smidge over £50k was just about do-able with provision for another £5k on squeezing the extra performance from the car..
When I bought her a 4.7 was mid £70's. I simply didn't have another £20k (that I could borrow!).

Getting 90+% (?) of the "feelgood" factor of a 4.7 from a tweaked 4.3 (still) seems a pretty good decision...

Agreed.

I was just having a friendly dig at our friend suggesting that a DB9 was the way to go.smile
