Looking for a bit of advice having just inherited my Grandads Marvin.

He died 20 years ago and it does look a bit like it has spent most of that time knocking around in a drawer.

Seems to be working fine but I think it could do with a bit of a tidy up. I'm not keen on the strap so that will probably be changed, but anyone got any idea what to do otherwise? there are loads of scrathes on the face and the winder is a bit worn. Can I get some glass / gold polish or would I need to get it done professionally?

It's quite different to my normal Tag! Makes a nice change and seems to fit well. Has a nice feature that the date can advance in either Enlish or 'Swiss' language. I'd not seen that before on a watch.

Many thanks.

http://www.watchobsession.co.uk/shop/cleaning-poli... lists most of the supplies you'll need for the cosmetics. I'd suggest a service for the movement also; find a local watch maker with good forum references for that.

Ta. Would you use the same polish for the scratches on the gold as the glass then?

I normally just use Autoglym metal polish on my other one. paperbag Fortunately the glass has never scratched.

Ok. After a liberal polishing with the cape cod cloths and a new strap I'm quite pleased with the result.

Still a few scratches but they give it character.

Pleased with the new strap. Only my Grandad could have bought a leather strap that manages to look like cheap vinyl!
