Hi all,

I had new discs on pads on my 93 mayfair 3 weeks ago, and its caused a couple of niggles. 1st, they squeal at low speed as I brake to a stop (only at low speed), and there is a faint but audible 'ticking' noise when driving along, that gets quicker with speed - This goes away if i gently press the brake pedal. Any ideas?

One other problem, coming out the IMM last night it had been sat in the sun, and the fan was on when i turned it off when I got there. (Temp gauge was only just over halfway) After the show, I came to start it, but to no avail. It was turning over, but not catching. A couple of friendly mini fans helped push and of them bump started it for me (cheers guys!). However the tick over dropped to around 250-300 rpm when pulling up to junctions so drove for a while with the choke set to the 1st notch to prevent it cutting out when pulling up to a junction. After around half an hour, the tickover returned to normal. This isn't the 1st time its happend, and yes, I know how to use the choke properly, as I have had the car for 6 years! ;-)

Cheers

Bed the disc pads in by driving along at about 40 mph in 4th gear and gently apply the brake pedalo with your left foot, keeping the throttle fully open and maintain 40 mph by brake pressure. Do this for about 1/4 of a mile, then let the pads cfool down and repeat this. That will bed in the pads and stop the squeaks/ticking.
