I'm off to Greenland (Eastern) on Friday for 9 days, then a 4 day stay in Reykjavic before coming home.

Greenland is part of Denmark so I'll need Danish Krone and then Icelandic Krona later. Apparently both countries take plastic for nearly everything but I see advice in various places to take some cash too. The question is how much and in what format? Should I get it changed before I go, or do it while there? If in doubt I usually take USD or Euros as I can then keep them for another holiday if I don't spend them.

Does anyone have any recent experience of either country. I'll be getting breakfast and evening meals provided, but no lunch.

If it's anything like Norway, it's plastic for everything. Even a newspaper.

I always like to carry shrapnel around too, when tipping it's a bit more personal than just rounding up on the card, plus you know the person serving you will get it.

I went to Iceland 2 years ago. I got some Icelandic Krona at Gatwick. Bloody expensive country though.

... Two years ago it was 130 Kr to the pound, it's 210 Kr now. Using my mathematical skills, you now get *several* percent more for your money.

There's some good deals to be had (I think it was booking flights and accommodation with Icelandair) We were going to go, but the missus is a bit too pregnant for all that right now.

Thanks for the replies, it's Iceland's banking collapse that partly made me think it is a good time to go. I think it is now expensive instead of very expensive.

I'll get about £100 of each local currency and take some USD and Euros that I already have along with some more just in case.

I've just got back from two weeks in Norway and Iceland (cruise). In Iceland they took pretty much anything where we were (Euros, Dollars, Pounds or plastic).
