Tax is the same.
Insurance, IIRC was a tiny difference when I was looking to buy the car.
Where it does get more is that a Griff is worth more than a Chimp. Since they are insuring a greater risk it's more.
Also the difference between a 400 Chimp and a 500 Griff is less than the extra I pay for having a tuned 500 over a standard one.
It may depend upon insurer, but Hagerty told me that they are insuring classics, not ongoing tuning projects.
I'm on £17500 agreed value. They won't allow me any further increase in agreed value or tuning.
It's cost me more than that to get it to the current condition.

Daz, Most insurers will load a bit for the engine upgrade but you will probably be surprised at how little it affects the overall premium. Expect to pay more but not stacks.
As far as road tax is concerned, all cars over 1598cc and registered prior to March 2001 pay the same amount, regardless of engine size. Your road tax will therfore not be affected by your engine upgrade.

Brake upgrade shouldn't cost anymore. Manning told me the car should be less to cover, as it is safer (but no reduction was forthcomming). But you do need to tell them. Ask for qoutes for the engine upgrade.roger
