Have made a few enquiries about Gallardo premiums and there does'nt seem to be much in it. A specialist dealer is asking £20k over retail - achievable? - for a car due soon whereas Verdi are asking £10k over for a car due in March.

Neither of these figures are huge as a % and seem to reflect the fact that the top end market is knackered at the moment - look at the way SL55 prices have collapsed from £90k+ to £80k in no time. These were cars which earlier in the year were around £100k! (Having owned an SL500 for a while earlier this year, I can't see the roof to be a problem - it is easily a coupe for the winter).

Anyone got experiences of other offers of Gallardo? I thought the Autocar test 19/26 was attractive enough...or are people just sceptical these days?

Probably due to the fact that exotica like this was sparce, now every manufacturer (or group) has something fast and shiny on offer.

Go back say 5 years and what were your choices for something bling over £100k, probably about half a dozen cars would spring to mind. Today you can take your pick from about a dozen marques and 2 dozen models, that is without looking for something really exotic.

Andrew,
the prices for SL55 are to be expected, how can a premium be asked for a car when its 3 year residuals are sooooo cack.

I think the top end market is now saturated with such models.

Actually looked at buying a gallardo but several things in particular do not bode well.

Firstly, its is well recognised that the merci is a beter car and now they have depreciated quite a lot probably a better 2nd hand buy.

Secondly, Audi intends to deveop their own car with this engine but with turbos.

Thirdly, the ambo does not have the heritage of Ferrari; with residuals to match.

Think its better to wait a year or to when the initial enthusiasm has gone. I think within 2 years these cars willbe trading for 40K less than retail.

in this climate DONT pay a premium !!

Hello

I wouldn't pay a premium for ANY car.

..the Lambo does not have the heritage of Ferrari..
well that's right but do you really buy a car because of its heritage alone?

I have driven some 355's and 360's as well as the new Gallardo (a factory car) and would say: the Gallardo is the better car.

Nevertheless I would wait one year (which can be cruel)

Regards

mmmmmm interesting! the issue is though what constitutes 'a better car' a porsche 996tt is ,a better car' but many people defect as they dont feel they are special enough.

Thats what put me off the galardo, all the raod tests say its a good car (well they would woundnt they!) but somany have said its just a bit dull or the same mould as a 996tt,

Its different sure! as to Heritage, well I think from a design perspective its a bit lacking, sure its a modern capable sports car but the back ofit wins little favour its certainoly no 328, 355 ect ect! for looks anyway

Thanks for the replies guys - premiums seem to be few
and far between these days, throughout the price range. They were pretty thin on the CLK cabs when they came out and it looks like those on the 6 series are going to be low.

This is great news if you want a Gallardo but are not on the list; £130k for a £120k car and no 18 month wait seems ok to me. However, what will the trade price be after two years - £80k?

I would prefer to wait for an SL55 once they are <£70k. They are already in the high 70's so not long to go!!

It's a different car for a different purpose and will appeal to a different customer.

It's not a question of coming down to earth. It's horses for courses.

Also looks, don't forget, are purely subjective...

I have looked at Replacing Penny's Allroader with a Volvo XC70/90 thang - and guess what - to drive one home, sir, you'll need to pay 2K over list. For a Volvo!

Blimey!!!!

Me thinks that an Audi RS6 Avant is in order - although I'll have to convince Penny first - usually the major hurdle to new car purchases....

Morning

The local Volvo dealer up here does good deals on nominal mileage registered cars (not sure how their prices compare to what you have been quoted obviously), did a quick search on their site and there seems to be plenty of the cars you are after. My parents have bought a couple of cars from them in the past, and were very pleased with the service they provided.

Link is: www.harratts.co.uk/volvo/default.htm

Not sure you'd want to travel up to Wakefield though

Shame on those dealers charging over list price premiums They prob would'nt get away with it up here though

Nice cars you have there Anjum BTW

MOD.

Agreed. Dont pay a premium for a Gallardo.

Both Lamborghini and Audi have Gallardo production lines. One at Sant Agata, and one at Neckarsulm, side by side with the RS6 production line in the Quattro GmBh facility. Supply isnt going to be far behind demand!
