I need to be able to adjust ride height as well as the usual bump/rebound.

  • Gaz Golds
  • ProTechs
  • Avos
Whats the pros/cons of each make? Loads of tech in the archives but its all over the shop, so can some techy summarise please?

I need a full set pretty quick.

Aint got the budget for nitrons or ohlins this year, so they're out of the question for now.

I know not the pros/benefits of those, but make sure you get the right springs. I think mine are a little soft, and no amount of twiddling a damper rebound setting can compesnate for that smile

There are also Intrax and Ohlins to add to your list, plus another mid range brand Joolz was supplying fitting recently Red something, can't remember what they were called.

The Racing Reds looked interesting but it didnt seem they hide adjustable ride height? or am I wrong?

I'm look at entry adjustable range, so Intrax are definitely out of the question lol.

I've got Avos on mine, seem alright, have spoken to guys about more expensive shocks and any REAL benefits and again you can spend a forture but beware of having "all the gear and no idea".

I'm not into racing, I just want good all round handling but be able to tweak for longer journeys and the odd track/strip day.... basic stuff really...

If I was going to do LeMans then I'd look into Intrax or Ohlins... LMFAO rofl

I recently had Gaz Golds fitted to mine and am very pleased with them. After a bit of tweaking they provide a good ride / body control compromise for all round use.

They've only been on there for about 3000 miles, but so far so good.

Nitrons smile I've only had these, gaz and oem but they're the best by far IME.

Quick hi-jack: my rear lower ARB clamp bolt is hitting the springs (again). Symptom is squeaky suspension. Last time 'twas due to the bolt being loose and the noise was really bad, this time the bolt looks to be done up, same as top bolt, but contact with the spring is evident from worn away spring coating. Before I tw@t it with something heavy, is there any other refined adjustment I could make? A couple of mm clearance is all I need. Only had a quick look and iirc there is a washer on the bolt which I could remove I suppose. (?)

I know how good the Nitrons can be, I had a setup done by Joospeed a few years ago, it gave my car amazing traction off the line, he had it custom gassed for my requirements.

But, now I'm looking at entry adjustables, "the ones that do the job nicely"... wink

Like a filthy zorba's kebab, after a serious pissup, you just cant argue with a filthy zorba's!...

No idea, ask someone who knows (like Joo or probably andy@apm) / someone who races (they'll probably have tried a few) smile

I think it's between protech and gaz. I would actually go with the fitter rather than the brand ?! For example if I lived near joo and he recommended protech inwould ask him to fit and set up. Likewise apm if he recommended gaz. I am sure they are much the same but the quality of set up is all important. But I ain't no expert.

I used Joo (ex-TCS) he recommended ProTechs and I've been happy with them for road use (not tracking until SATURDAY biggrinbiggrin )

Joo helped by setting them up; adjusting the range for the adjustment to work over and fitted new bumpstops; adjusted ride height etc.

Recently put Gaz Golds on my Cerb to replace the tired Avos and have been happy with the result. The car handles much better. I can't tell you about Nitrons or Ohlins because I couldn't spend that much but the Golds are certainly not disappointing.
