Got linked decats at the mo and have been thinking about sorting my exhaust out for a while starting at the manifolds I think Mine have a slight crack and therfore am wary about welding them up - and going right through to the silencer. I would like to track the car in the future.

If i suggest that I want a system with cats below track level Db what do you suggest? Outright HP is not that big an issue.

Willing to hear views of those who sorted and fitted themselves or had installs fitted.

I have the SP back box on mine and with the cats it measured at 98db. I have just had the cats taken out and replaced with ACT's (cherry bomb I think they call them) silencers and at Brands a couple of weeks ago it measured at 101db at 5500 revs.

My car went from a de-catted with straight through pipes and sports exhaust tongue out to a 4.5 back box and everything else untouched. At Snetterton it tested 101dB at 5,250.

And it still sounds great! nuts

ACT's quiet system is 106db decatted, or 96db with cats or trackday cans on my 4.2

Cheers that's good, I've got a 4.2 so that's all pretty quiet I reckon mine must be well over 115db.

What about the manifolds, is the ACT £900 job still the best option?

I've got the ACT manifolds on my Cerb now, much better made than the origionals.
Also rather than a small torque bump at peak it now has a much better shape to the
curve, comes up quicker then stays there.

I have them too, noticeable difference even without a remap. However they are slightly louder than standard.

Will do,
The rebuild seems good, good power 440 BHP torque 370, but a much better delivery, torque holds on much longer than before a much better curve.
More importantly it's on standard compression no leaning out the fuelling and no advance.
Considerably quieter from cold, the engine feels like an electric motor very strong, no oil or water use. It was built for reliability rather than outright power, it could probably push another ten to fifteen horses if the wick was turned up, but what's the point, just shortens the life of the engine and after three rebuild's that's the last thing I need. More into developing the race car for next year to be honest.

I'm glad you've finally got the lump to your liking Nick, I know what you mean about an electric motor, very smooth and progressive with a different engine note to it too. A bit like the noise at the end of this rough clip... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XwDtNnoIo-M
