Am I incorrect in thinking that the school holidays provide a wonderful opportunity to spend some quality time with the kids, whilst marvelling at how the teachers manage to keep the little blighters entertained all day?

It genuinely saddened me yesterday to see a mother and daughter sitting on a park bench taking in the sunshine. The little girl was perhaps 4/5 and was doing some colouring-in. Her mother, a mongish looking inbred, was sat beside her, taking absolutely no interest in her daughter whilst swigging from a can of special brew. What the fk is wrong with these people?

Don't worry. Soon it will be illegal to drink alcohol or smoke in the park. Then all these people will never go outside again.

Besides, mummy would be drinking Special brew wherever they were, atleast the kid got some fresh air for a change..

Ugh special brew!

I drank some in about 1987 and it still makes me feel sick thinking about it.

I know a woman who has never worked has three kids and gets £1800 a month! Her two yougest have not been to school ever, 11 and 12 respectively. Saying that the 11yo is surprising bright. Shame really.

Would it have been ok if they had been sitting on a fancy picnic blanket, drinking champers from their Fortnums hamper whilst ignoring the child?

In the whole few seconds that you can have seen this going on you were able to make a judgement on their whole lives ... well done you, you should work in marketing as they could save loads of money on market research and propensity modelling.

Actually, scrub that, TankRizzo manages to make an even more sweeping and actually quite offensive analysis based on a few lines of text.

For the record, no I wouldn't choose to drink special brew whilst in the park with my children (I don't think I've ever even tasted it, but I am told it's not very pleasant) but I might sit and watch the world go by ( What is this life, if full of care, we have no time to stand and stare?), particularly if my kids were occupied, perhaps doing a bit of colouring. If you saw that for a couple of seconds, perhaps you would also castigate me for "ignoring them" ... never mind that you hadn't seen the couple of seconds beforehand when I helped them choose which picture to colour in, or the couple of seconds later when we discussed what colour to do a particular section.

Pistonheads - preconceived judgements matter.

I have a relative by marriage who is probably the kind of person PH's like - senior position in a company, house in the country, expensive cars, huntin', shootin' n fishin' kind of guy. Two sons who he doesn't actually seem to like very much; if he takes time off work it's used for his shooting trips, or lads days out, or recovering from drinking the night before. He didn't even see his son on his 6th birthday this year, they told him his birthday had been moved back a couple of days this year - because he wanted to go out and drink expensive wine in an expensive wine bar. What the **** is wrong with THOSE people?

I'm confused (for a change).

Was the mother drinking it, or the child?

Nope, why would that be any better?

Good point. They'll save a fortune and I can get rich. Thanks for the advice.

I wouldn't have thought that is a lot better, is it? At least he is providing for his children rather than relying on the state to do so. Yes that is a generalisation based on her choice of refreshing beverage, but my extensive market research leads me to conclude a significant statistical correlation between women who drink special brew in a public place (canal rather than the park) and those who are sponging members of the UK's sprawling underclass. Alternatively, you may judge that she was a valuable member of society fully contributing...

"Oh look at me. I meticulously check my spelling and grammar before I type on the internet".

Grammatically correct or not, you know what I meant and you're still coming across as a left wing ponce.

The woman in this case is clearly a waste of space and you know it.
