TV Broken, not missing it
Discussion
My TV's been broken for about a week now, it just clicks when you turn it on.
That's not important right now though, what is important is that I'm not really missing it.
I've come to realise that turning the TV on in the evening actually stresses me out more, its a stressful way to spend time. Constantly flicking channels looking for something good to be on... the sense that there must be something elusive and awesome on if you could only find it, you find something that causes a breif ripple of vague interest to pass your brow and then it changes almost immediately to s
tty annoying adverts that seem to last longer than the programme its self. More flicking. More loud, annoying chav s
t.
The only things I think I will miss are the very occasional series that I PVR and the odd late night movie, but that's it.
TV: It's a bit rubbish, isn't it?

Hardly watch it at all but then again I don't understand what they're saying over here and the only English channel we get is BBC News 24 which I cannot bear.
Interesting what you said about it stressing you out even more though and I do agree. Actually I find the internet has a similar effect on me, there is SO much out there to look at but I find myself always looking at the same websites that often I just turn the damn computer off and go do something constructive like cooking or shagging the Mrs.

The only time my tv is on is for DVDs or the wii, if I watch TV it's pretty much only Tog Gear through the iplayer.
My friend and I had a debate one night as she sits every night watching soaps, I said I am usually on the internet and she said how 'sad' I was! I said usually through the powers of the internet I am having interesting lively debates/dicussions, learning new things, meeting new people, making arrangements for social acitivities, and on the rare occasion, as I mod a car forum, helping people out with advice - you sit and watch fake people act out fake lives...am sorry who is sad?

I watched two things interesting recently.
One was on various Russian cold war bombers resulting in the tu-144.
the Russioans, Boeing and Nasa teamed up to get the thing working so they could investigate various things associated with sustained Mach 2 flight.
WHY NOT USE THE FRICKIN CONCORDE!?!?!!!!!!!!?!?!?????
Stupid.
The second was a on a flying wing style plane built by the Nazi's during WWII which was very interesting.
Erm, anyways. TV sucks.
Edited to add more drama.

I've been with my lady now for 6 months and ever since meeting her we've not needed the telly (fnarr).
She'd moved into her new house and never aqquired the TV license, and so we just used iPlayer or downloaded/watched DVD's if we fancied an evening in front of the box.
We've since moved in together and we decided to continue doing this; I now do not miss the TV, and I can catch everything I like (Top Gear, Dragons Den etc) and she can catch the odd Eastenders if she so wishes.
As for everything else, it doesn't seem like I'm missing much - and I just download as and when I require things...

TV does NOT suck. Not at all. There are loads of good programmes out there. Of course, there are loads of rubbishy ones too - but I don't watch them. One was on various Russian cold war bombers resulting in the tu-144.

As for NASA using Concorde - there were two good reasons why the didn't (or couldn't).
i) There were no spare Concordes available at the time
ii) Hiring the Tu-144 was relatively cheap.
It would have cost a lot more to restore one of the test and development Concordes then residing in museums to airworthy status. As it was, the Russians had to fit the Tu-144 with completely different engines to the originals to get one example back in the air.
