Hi,
I've just bought a 1990 Mini as my first car ( I am only 17). It looks amazing and has no rust but does have a slight problem. I'm not sure if its usual in this sort of car and i am wondering if you can help?
After i have finished driving and turn the ignition off the engine carrys on running for a while, sometimes for a short while sometimes longer after a long-ish journey?
Is there something i can do to stop it or cut the lenght of time it does it for?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
Craig

its running on, caused by the timing been wrong, or the mixture been too weak. a good service will solve it, but if the car is well coked up (from running rich or burning oil) it may need the head off and the tops of the pistons and chambers cleaning.

the running on is caused by the carbon deposits in the chambers glowing red and igniting the fuel, so the spark plugs are not needed.

this will damage the engine, so its best to stall the engine with the cltch when you turn the ignition off.

That is one of the most common problems with 1275 cc Minis.
Just depress the clutch, select 1st gear, switch off and, as the engine dies, gently let the clutch up. No more problem.
