Audi A6, 3.0 TDI Avant, Le Mans spec.. any good ?
Discussion
I just got one a month or so back; love it to bits. Had plenty of time in a 5-series loan car just prior to deciding on the Audi and am happy I made the right choice.
Only minor complaint I'd have so far is the fuel economy. I'm getting about 33mpg, slightly more on a long run. Still, it's a marked improvement on the 26mpg I had from our A4 3.0 petrol quattro before that.

Trying to decide between the new mercedes e-class 350 cdi and the audi.
Already had the merc out on a 48hr demo but its proving nearly impossible to get the audi for half an hour.
All im being offered is an accompanied 20-30 minute demo !! Do they want to sell cars for christ sake ?
Waiting for a call from the 3rd audi dealer to arrange an extended test drive if possible !

Cant answer your specific question , I have the A6 avant 2.7 tdi se, with a few extra's . I've had it about 10 months , never missed a beat , has a good quality feel and a nice place to be. It has proved to be a good all rounder , wish I'd held out for a quattro though . Good luck with your purchase
I have a quattro 2.7 TDi and am averaging 30mpg, although a run on the motorway will return just over 40mpg. I could certainly improve on these figures by moderating my right foot.
If looking at a Le Mans Avant, you must be very close to Allroad money, on a new car. Allroads have their own residual value category, though all top spec big Audis don't do too bad after the initial hit.

Blimey. I get 38-44mpg from mine on a run- a 55plate 3.0tdi SE... 30ish round town. Only minor complaint I'd have so far is the fuel economy. I'm getting about 33mpg, slightly more on a long run. Still, it's a marked improvement on the 26mpg I had from our A4 3.0 petrol quattro before that.
Are you leaving it in sport mode?
Either way, they are great cars. Very happy with mine.

Don't use sport that much, sometimes use the paddles. Wife drives the car too and that's usually good for an extra 4mpg! Ours does have quite a few options on it which might not help, but probably not to that level of difference - can't think the diff between a Le Mans and an SE would make a big difference either. Haven't had yours remapped or something have you?Are you leaving it in sport mode?
One thing that just occurred to me, the earlier cars were a slightly different engine I think as they seem to have lower emissions/better mpg, so I'm guessing that's probably the reason.

I guess MPG depends on the road and driver, not sure if the A6 has an adaptive ECU?
Sadly don't own one, but had one (albeit a saloon) for three weeks and >1000 miles a few weeks ago while my A3 was being worked on (I'd say fixed, but they didn't actually fix anything, so...).
Anyway - absolutely loved it, I got a worst of 36mpg and a best of 47, with typical 40-42. This was the older spec engine too - the 3.0TDi was recently cleaned up and fiddled with and should be significantly more economical if you're buying new.
Car itself was great - despite frequently heard gripes about Audi SLine suspension I thought it was perfectly comfortable, rapid, refined, had all the toys, loads of room, and handled surprisingly well - like a big GTi in many ways, certainly didn't feel its size or weight when pushing on.
If I was in the market for such a car, I'd have no hesitation in choosing this car, and this spec. And I really would go for this spec - I also had a 2.7 Le Mans for a few days and to be honest for me it wasn't even half the car - the extra is definitely money well spent (and you get a proper auto box too!).

I have a A6 3.0 TDI Quattro le mans S-Line and absolutely love it. Bought it new at the beginning of the year to replace an A4 3.0 TDI quattro (similar spec).
Mileage I think we get between 30 and 40 mpg and she handles readlly well for a big car. Flappy paddles are good if a little slow and changing when you want them too, but much better than the multitronic auto box controls.
Some people say the s-line suspension is hard but we don't find it a problem. Leather recarros are really comfortable and adjust in lots of directions.
I have 19" wheels (RS6 ones) I think, which you have to be very careful parking anywhere near a curb as they are sooooooo easy to damage as the tyre does not over run the alloy in anyway.
Audi MMI (equivalent of BMW idrive) is good but given position takes a bit of time to learn to use without loking at. Rear parking sensors also a good idea.
Ours is avus silver with blacked out rear windows to keep the young ones happy but looks cool to.
I would definitely recommend car, so much oommph (450LBS /FT torque and something line 250 BHP) yet a relaxed milemucher when you want it to be. Certainly makes over taking effortless.

Its taken me a while to reply as I have been away.
I have a 3.0 tdi Le Mans Salooon and its a very good car indeed. Better than my previous 5 series although the handling is not as sharp.
just driven to coenwall and back fully laden with surboards on the roof and it went like a dream, overtaking completely effortless, cruising comfortable, fuel consumption despite roofrack 32mpg. (unladen I get 42mpg on motorway and 35 mpg overall).
Just toying with p-exing for a new one.
