It has been a good day, and a bad day.

Took delivery of my brand new Elise this am. Looks gorgeous, drives sweetly and apart from a loud incessant chirruping that I suspect is from a chafing door seal all hunky dory.

Except

As I drove the car, at a snails pace, across the forecourt I heard a loud clonk. I thought it was just a manhole cover but when I got home I discovered a large hole bashed into the rear panel in front of the wheel.

Swiftly on the phone to the dealer who reports that one of the set of metal inspection covers on the forecourt had twisted and bent upwards, thereby puncturing the car. They are absolutely contrite and will be fixing it without delay. No hesitation from them in accepting fault, mind you he said the metal plate has shards of glassfibre and paint on top of it!

So has anyone else had an accident in their new car before they have even left the dealership? I suspect I claim the prize!

Mate I know I never wrote in your forum but read it and can remember how excited when I picked up mine and assume you were the same. I hope this hasn't ruined anything for you and at least it should be looking as new again soon

Took me 19 days before I needed a new front clam on my VX220 due to being driven into (non-fault claim now being processed).

Chap in the north east bought an exige S, was warned to take it easy going home as the tyres still had their coating on and it was raining. He travelled 5 miles, was over energetic on the loud pedal, back end stepped out on a roundabout and he failed to catch it. Car spun and bounced off everything it could apparently resulting in a 17k repair bill to a brand new 38k car. Fupping Numpty!

As i'm sure you know, that's just damn bad luck.

Now thinking you're name is McRae is different. Especially whilst in your two week old impreza, in the snow for the first time, and binning it sideways at full throttle with snowy rooster tails off all four wheels, that's a true numpty.

When I picked up my previous elise it came with a few problems, as it had been sat around for a couple of months. I dropped it off at the dealers and they gave me a brand new 111r as a courtesy car.

I met with the sales guy at a Seloc meet a couple of days later to swap cars. As we were returning to the cars, parked side by side, I opened the passenger door of the loaner to get some of my stuff out. At the same time the sales guy lent into the car to turn it over, only I'd left it in reverse and he didn't check.

Cue me on my arse in a gravely pub carpark and dirty great hole in the side of my car.

Like you though, they were really good about it and got it sorted out pretty quickly.

This is the courtesy car they are giving me when I take it in tomorrow-a special edition 'Ferrari 500' that they use for their Ferrari customers when their cars are being serviced.

Not the 599 Fiorano I had hoped for but hey ho.

Having waited six months for my new S1, on the morning of collection the garage did a similar thing.

Got a chip on mine about half a mile from picking it up, bloody truck coming the other way threw up a stone. Lived with it (after using the touch up paint) for years. Got the front clam resprayed last month.
