This has happened several times now and Im getting severely fked off with the situation.

Today I was at a company going through the contractor interview process and the hiring manager has told me about the fact he has had my CV through 3 times for the same role, yet I have only used the company that I got the interview with, WTF.

last week I get a job spec of a PHer and then think cool I like, whats the next process, so I contact the recruiter of choice that is the companies favoured RC. They send it off and get told I have already applied and I have no idea how as the only other recruitment company that I talked to about this company I just applied to was over 5 weeks ago and I declined the job as I didnt want it.

So how do I....

a) get the names of these fkers doing this? (got one already)
b) threaten them with legal action, due to the fact if my CV spams a place (comes from more than 1 source) my CV gets disgarded.
c) Suspect this has happened quite a bit now as Im not even getting call backs for jobs Im fully qualified to do.

So pissed off right now and want to know how I can stop it.

Bare in mind that a lot of jobs are getting put out to more and more agencies, with slightly differently worded ads makes it very difficult to keep track of what you have applied for. But chances are the fkers have taken your CV from somewhere and are firing it off everywhere.

At a company I used to work for, we once had an agency send the CV of someone who already worked for us. Possibly not the best way to tell your boss that you're looking elsewhere.

If you have applied online for something with an agency you will find buried in the T&C's that they will share your CV with anyone who asks for it i.e other Recruitment agencies. The agencies themselves shouldn't however forward on your CV to any employer without asking you first as they are effectively applying on your behalf without your knowledge.

One agency had copied my CV into their own format and in the process had made me 10 years older. I applied for a couple of jobs that I knew the Employer would be desperate to interview me for (direct competitors) and never even got an interview. The penny dropped when I got an unrelated interview and was asked to explain the 10 year gap in my CV.

It sounds like they might be using it to make their other legitimate applicants look good (not an insult to you btw smile) or to make the amount of applicants they have look high.

At a previous company one of the guys was looking. Within half an hour of sending his cv to one recruiter his boss got a phone call: "Now Xxxxx is leaving, can we discuss a replacement?"

Shocking.

Both times this was the only occasion that I applied for these companies and I have no knowledge of allowing someone else to represent me, even checking all my saved emails has nothing for months.

I always check the ads and make sure I dont apply more than once.

I think they almost all do this and at the very least put their masthead on it. I've seen it from peering at the docs at interview and also when receiving CVs for potential employees.

Well, have a look at Progressive's...

Sharing your information
Your information will not be forwarded to any parties outside our group (with the exception of our clients, agents who process data on our behalf and successors in title to our business) without your consent. Such third parties may use your data to send you information and marketing relevant to recruitment and your general professional interests.
So you can be put forward for a million roles and never hear about it. Many agencies have similar terms. The trick is not to be on any of their databases. However, if you check out this thread, that's no guarantee either... http://forums.contractoruk.com/business-contracts/...

I would expect it's nigh on impossible to find out if you've already been put forward for a role by a dodgy agent until you're in the hot seat.

The legitimate recruiter is getting the names of the 2 recruiters that are doing this and they are getting a phone call tomorrow.

Now need to know what I can do about it as they are spamming my CV that means it looks bad on me and then my CV gets thrown away.

Tell the client who you wish to be represented by. Also tell him who is acting without your permission. these situations happen a lot and often clients will bin the candidate because if recruiters not getting permission . Also report the recruitment Co the the REC

http://www.rec.uk.com/home

as a recruitment company, its a pisser when we spend ages looking for a candidate who then agrees to be represented by us, only to find that someone has "wordsearched" their database and blitzed the client with CVS.

Lodge a complaint with BIS (Dept for Business Innvocation & Skill) -

They cause you problems, give them a major headache to deal with.

Tel: 020 7215 5000 or 020 7215 6740

Email us: enquiries@bis.gsi.gov.uk

All agencies and recruiters have specific legislation that they have to adhere to. My guess is while they have certain procedures in place they are borderline crossing the line. At worst, they'll get a visit from the inspectorate who has a duty to inspect and follow up on any complaint issued.

If you need a name if someone to talk to PM me and i can give you a number of one of the inspectors that can offer you advise and will follow up on anything they feel has breach any regulations.

How does the legitimate guy know who the dodgy ones are then?

Lots of them do this.

One of my team in a previous role applied for his own job, without even knowing. Or me knowing he was looking. Suffice to say he didn't get it.

I don't understand.

If you didn't know he was looking why was his job advertised?

Or do you mean the same role?

How many agencies are you registered with?

It's better to only register with a couple for this reason.

I once got sent a CV for somebody who was still working for a company in the same block of offices as us, and who we worked quite closely with. I'm sure that they wouldn't have wanted their CV sent had they known, so it was quite poor of the agency to not check considering the addresses were only two numbers apart. Obviously I didn't make mention of it, but in hindsight I should have called the agency and given them a bking for risking the person's job.

My other half had this aswell. Not happy in the slightest!

She actually had her probationary period extended because of it.
