Was in the garden about 17:30 today (Wednesday) and five aircraft flew overhead, very low, in a V formation followed closely by another five in the same formation. Anybody know who this was and the aircraft in question? The number in each formation may be wrong as it all happened so fast but there were at least 8 planes in total.

This was in Gloucestershire and the aircraft flew from East to West. We live at 800 ft on a ridge so the planes seemed very low as they flew over. Just curious really.

TIA

I take it they weren't red? The Red arrows have 2 teams and fly about in formation.

They were in Cornwall today and the route to RAF Scampton would be over Gloucester if they take a straight line

Not red, but they did seem quite small. Sorry for my ignorance. I see Falmouth display was 6pm and this was before then.

It does sound like the Red Arrows to me. They operate a nine ship formation plus one spare. All ten fly in formation when transitting between displays.
If they weren't red, what colour were they?

I know it does point towards the Red Arrows. I thought they were grey, my initial reaction was "look its the red arrows" but then the OH said "but they are not red!"

It could be a flight of Typhoons. Could they get ten in the air at any one time?

Just been in the garden again and two chinooks have flown over flanked by two helicopters. The helicopters were black and had a dome shaped object above the propellers. Again east to west as yesterday.

Its amazing to see them together and so close to the ground.

Domes over the rotors (not propellors wink ) mean Apaches.

I was flying between Filton and Gloucester yesterday at around 2ish and the reds were on their way down to Newquay, so may have been on their way back?

Spotted what looked awfully like a Hurricane yesterday over Hare Hatch. Only saw it from the rear - quite late in the evening, around 8pm heading west.

What was odd was that the landing gear was down.
