Nice work if you can get it i suppose.

Good week for Labour, no enquiry into the MGR debacle and now this.

Let's see.

Obfuscation, deceit, innuendo...

The figures given are 'eye watering' because they are over 15 years.

There are estimates based on what 'could have been' claimed.

There is no mention of where or how allowances were spent - if they had a staff of 15 then it seems reasonable. If they were trousering it not. Given the article glosses over it, I guess there isn't a lot of dirt.

The pensions do not seem over the top given the job, profile and responsibilty. Certainly no different from many civil service arrangements.

It is poorly written, transparent muck raking, worse because there may not be anything behind it.

I'd be the first to condemn freeloading of the sort allegeed, but that piece is empty sensationalism and is so clearly biased it is impossible to give any credence to.

Maybe so, but their hypocrisy stinks.

True...

JAYB...The role of EU Commissioner is a hugely overpaid and over-expensed gravy train non job, well documented for years.

That anyone bleeds us dry thus is a disgrace.

That a faied, socialist, nearly prime minister grows wealthy, on the back of our taxes, whilst failing again in his primary task of eradicating corruption rooted within the EU, takes it to a new level.

If the source and style of the story worries you, tough, I'm sure you'll get over it...smile

Quoted for posterity.

You socialist professors really do need to control those emotional knee jerks or you'll be getting a double hernia...hehe

Are you really a professor..?

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I stumbled across this whilst searching for evidence against the G Wizz.

If Osborne and Cameron jump on the EU gravy train, I will berate them in like manner.

How is Mark Thatcher relevant to this? Do you want me to cover Adolf Hitler and Stalin as well..?

- pot - kettle black...?

yes

indeed seems legit given kinnock pops up regulalrly as item of ridicule... not that I hold him in any regard...

As the other poster eloquently put it (far more so than I could be bothered) it is a rag of a story and why bother post it here when it 8 weeks old?

And please, before replying, do go and work out what, for example, Mr & Mrs Winterton (IIRC) "earned" in their time in parliment or indeed anybody on the elected member gravy train earns ....figures in isolation.... not really worth analysis ...but that's the Daily Mail for you.

Night night.

Sorry, you've lost me there.

There is a news forum for news stories. Why do you think threads here should be confined to news?

No-one is voting for them after all, I thought socialists who bettered themselves were to be applauded. viz the last speaker, who was some kind of labour hero.

You think hypocrisy deserves applause..?

I would call EU Commissioners and MEPs parasites. Hardly in keeping with socialist principles.

Bettering oneself is great - but it normally assumes you do it yourself rather than just loading up your plate at a free table provided by everyone else's taxes.

To me, 'rich socialist' as an oxymoron - they should have given it away to the poor. Hence they keep the wonga but then start to preach to everybody else - see Hypocrite.
