Debadging

Hi all,

Ive just bought an SLK 200 and plan to remove the 200 badge from the rear - got a thing about symmetry. Does anyone know if this is an easy job to DIY without making a mess and if so, what is the best method?

New or old? If new, the dealer should happily do it for you. If old, just beware of any fade in the paint that could result in a "shadow" where the bade was ...

I agree with this, but try boiling water instead of a hair dryer; it's quicker and you're less likely to annoy the OH when you have burnt out her hair dryer on your fking car! (I speak from experience!)

If you did remove the badges is it then possible to put them back on again or is it new badges ?

As long as you dont damage them taking them off putting them back on is easy by using double sided tape (preferably the foam backed variety)

Just be aware that whatever your reasons for doing it, debadged cars scream "I couldn't afford the good one and I'm really embarrassed about it", thus labelling you as a bit of a wally. I'd leave the badges on and enjoy the car for what it is.

I could not disagree with you more !!! in fact I`ve orderd `E200` and `kompressor` badges for the back of mine along with some `6`s for the front wing.
I just get pissed with every fool with 100 hp trying to smoke me at every set of trafic lights.

Marc, can I ask what are the '6's for or what do they mean?

The car has `V8 kompressor` on the front wings, going to remove the 8 and put the 6 in its place.

I have removed the back badges and found 2 small dents coverd by them and also 2 small rust blisters in another place on the boot hatch. It looks beter with out them....

Why do you get pissed off with it? You have a simple choice - either use the loud pedal and show them who's boss, or let them charge off on their own knowing that they've proven nothing. Neither one represents a major life changing problem to you, surely?

Its not so much at the lights realy its people coming up behind and sitting 2 inches of my bumper and having to get past at any cost. It just brings out the worst in a lot of people and with 5 kids in the back would you want it ?

In my experience, dhead drivers will do that whether you're driving a 911 GT3 or a Ford Galaxy. My advice to you would be to ignore them, let them past if it's safe to do so, and every now and again when the mood takes, smoke them.

Come on, I think without the badges the four chrome exhausts and the wide stance might give an inkling to the performance within!

Yes, I get this in the GT3 - especially from people who really would have no chance if I took them up on it - vans, Escorts, 190E's and all that. Luckily, the BMW 550 only has the tiny 550i badge on the back so no one can tell it apart from any 518i or whatever the base model is these days so no one pays me any attention at all
