Hi All,

This is my first post on here so please excuse any stupid questions!

Currently I have a Tissot PRC200 chronograph which has been great for the money I paid but am now looking to "upgrade" and have always liked the TAG Carrera chronograph.

Does anyone here have one and if so what have been their experiences of it, i.e. quality, reliability etc...

This may sound daft but I'm still quite young and I don't want to waste quite a lot of money on a poor choice!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Al

This the one you mean?

Nice watch. Some haters of the modern Tag Heuers out there. And yes I appreciate the allure of an original Tag version but as new watches go it is pretty sweet. I have a Grand Carrera and love it to bits.

I really can't see you having any problems with a Tag. Not sure if it's still the case but I think these have the same movement as the Omega Speedmaster. I have one of those and it's been faultless for years.

Had a similar choice recently, to choose between these two...

Both nice watches, but ultimately I went for the Omega and Dominic H on here was able to do an excellent deal.

I have had chrono tachymetre (albeit in different colours to the above) for a few years now... some people don't like Tags because their not "proper" Heurs, but mine has run faultlessly and it's a beautiful watch.

Excellent! Thanks so much for the quick feedback chaps!

Interesting that I am currently trying to decide between a Speedmaster and the Carrera.

Will let you know how it works out!

I'm biased but I'd go for the Speedmaster! ;-)

I had the CV2010 like in the picture and although it was a splendid watch, I found that I preferred the Speedmaster and got one of those. If you are thinking of these watches, recommend going to a AD and trying both on and having a look at them side by side.

If this is going to be a keeper then either one is a very nice choice, but in the long term you might want to sell it and get a different watch, I personally think the Speedmaster would be a little easier to move on.

Just my thoughts on the subject. Let us know how you get on and post some pictures on the Wrist Shot thread when you have it.

Of the two above, so would I. But really, if you're getting a Speedy, it ought to be the Professional.

Why so? I think that the Speedy date pictured is so much more attractive. Each to his own, though.

For me the speedy with date was a bit small on my wrist. The Speedmaster Pro looks just right, plus it's handy next time you're on the moon!

Like you say, each to his own. The Pro has the better (more reliable) movement, is slightly bigger, has a waaayyyy better bracelet & is just "the real deal"

What's the best price you can get one of these for new?

Just as a matter of interest - how many of you have had important meetings on the Moon that you had to attend wearing the correct wristwatch? And how many would you have been castigated for if you'd turned up with anything other than an Omega moon watch?

Just wondering, since Omega seem to have a bit of a corner on the 'business meetings on the Moon' market.

rofl

I've got a so-called 'limited edition' reduced Speedy (the 2000 Schumacher edition, with silver face, no idea whether it's worth anything but it looks cool) so I'm not part of the Moon Watch posse, but the Omega chrono movement certainly seems robust and well-designed.

I have a 35 yr old Tissot with the Lemania 1873 movement in it (861 in Omega speak). Its a great movement very smooth and easy to wind and history suggests very long lived and robust (mine still keeps great time). The speedy is the iconic watch to use this movement but not the only one. Its very much a question of wether one wants a speedy for the overall look and feel (buy any speedy variant then), or the movement (could by any watch with a Lemania 1873 in it), or for me the rather silly moon watch connotations. I think for a lot of ppl they buy the moonwatch because they know it is an easy watch to sell on hence why you can always find even 69 speedies being flipped.

I forgot to add but the speedie for me would be the one with the Lemania 5100 based movement in it. Rare as the proverbial though. Similar thought process for me would end up back at a vintage Heuer with something like a Buren 12 based movement rather then a modern Tag.

Hello guys!

Both watches are very timeless in design, both can come with sapphire glass although you will pay a lot more to have that in the speedy!

There is no better watch out of the two its down to personal preference. The Carrera is a modern timeless class piece, a piece to enjoy, its got a really nice weight to it. At first when you try it on you might think its a little two thick, it wont be, youll get use too this within hours.

The Speedy, well its an old classic piece that looked good years ago, and will still look good years down the line!..........They are both a piece to be proud of and pieces to enjoy and pass down!

Please let me know if you're thinking of buying them soon! I'll get back to you with prices i won't match the net at all, but i'll see what i can do!
